Hi all:

It's been a while since I've posted. Went through quite a ride the past couple of years, but I'm back with a 93 Wrangler and loving it. Except for my latest problem especially since summer is coming on fast.

I bought the jeep a year ago and just last month my AC blower motor went out. I took it out and one of the bushings is destroyed. So I started looking around for one. Being an under dash unit, I figured it was an aftermarket setup. After going through the motor manufacturer I finally came up with a Daimler Chrysler part number 04-74-1584. Well I started looking around the local auto parts stores and even ordered a replacement from NAPA. What we got was a single speed motor. Mine is a 3 speed model. Autozone and Checker list a Siemens model number PM786.

So before ordering one and having to wait another week before finding out it is the incorrect one, I'm hoping someone on here has the knowledge on this part.

Can anyone verify the part numbers above or have a better part number for the AC blower motor?

The jeep is a 93 Wrangler 4.0L Automatic. Not sure if it came with AC or not, as stated before the AC unit is an underdash unit.

I appreciate any help given.

3 speed model? Please don't take offense, but that doesn't make any sense. Typically there is a resistor block that is used to control the speed of the motor, not something special with the motor itself.

So what exactly is the problem with the replacement unit that you got? Does it not fit in the original mounting location? Does the electrical connector not plug into it? Does it only work on one speed?

A little more specific info on the problem itself would help. Also, if I'm not mistaken the factory a/c unit on that year wrangler kind of looks like an aftermarket add on so chances are your unit is a factory unit, they just look kind of weird. Hope that makes sense.

Typically the speeds are controled in the resistor of the fan control switch.

I just ordered a blower motor for my 94 yj from partsamerica.com (Checker) and am planning to install it sometime this weekend. It does not look like that difficult of a job.

Also - the underdash unit is "normal" in that it looks like an aftermarket add on.

If you go to Autozone, they have an excellent diagram of the ac blower motor replacement process.

ac blower motor 4741584 $123 (dealer list?)
TTBOMK, motor is variable speed (even though does go through set of resistors)
Single speed (same motor size, mounts different application) just as fast on high (only speed you need in AZ), MUCH cheaper

KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid!)

I got rid of variable speed switch and replaced with ON / OFF .... daytime you need as much as you can get, night time you don't.
