View Full Version : Butcher Jones... Pop Up Camper Recovery/Clean up!!

Hey guys...

There is a pop up camper that is in desperate need of being taken
out of the desert... well *dragged* out of the desert and I need
some help with this...

The tires are still in tact on the camper, one of them is low and needs
to be aired up a bit... it has (what we think) is an 1.5" ball hitch on it
that we can use to tow it out...

The easy part will be moving it from point A... to point B... Walts jeep
or My Green Jeep can tow it out...

What I need... a clean up crew...

WHEN: SUNDAY, MARCH 30TH
TIME: 8AM (wanna get it going before it gets too hot!!)
WHERE: POBRECITO
Stewart Mtn Group Site also
known as Pobrecito: This entrance is a mile
north of the Saguaro Lake turn off on Bush
Hwy. From Mesa travel east on US 60 and
take the Ellsworth exit. Follow Ellsworth
approximately 10 miles to the Bush Hwy.
Continue east on Bush Hwy approximately 7
miles and turn right at the Pobrecito boat
staging area.

Meet Right after the cattle guard...

Walt and I can do the clean up but... we will be out there all day and
would like a little bit of help if that is possible...

PM me if you want to see pictures of the what needs to be cleaned..

Thanks everyone!!!

I noticed I put in Butcher Jones... the entrance is north of the
Butcher Jones entrance at POBRECITO...

I am trying to get this done as soon as possible so it does not
get trashed any worse than what it is now...

Thanks!!!

Since it's 8am, I'll try to get out there for at least 2 hrs. I have other commitments at noon. This spot is only a mile from pavement on a dirt road easy enough for a passenger car so anyone can make it there to help. I'll also add that this spot is a target shooting mess so you know what to expect. And again, this project is acknowledged and appreciated by the Tonto Natl Forest Mesa Ranger District. Thanks to all of you who are able to help.

Hey guys, looks like my transmission got a almost green (slightly yellow) light. The transfer case however it leaking pretty badly. I'm supposed to degrease it, spray the heck out of it at a self serve car wash and then use it so they can see just where all it is leaking from.

SO...this seems to fit the bill. I'd love to come out and meet with those that are going to make it. I do want to say in advance however that I'm not going to be much help in heavy lifting as I'm still going to the chiropractor for my back, but I can help with the little stuff, and as a bare minimum, I can take pics!

If anyone going is willing to PM me their cell #, I'll return the favor in case I don't make it to the rendezvous point on time.

Thanks, can't wait to meet some of ya!

Hope all went well. I spent the day essentially doing a tune up and making the Jeep street legal. I was hoping to do that Friday and make the clean up but it just didn't happen.

New plugs, new oil and filter, new belts. Rear view mirror added and brake lights are now working. I also added a coolant reservoir as there was none at this point.

So I'm all set for Sheep's Crossing in a couple weeks! Can't wait to get this thing off road and really play.

Again, wish I could have helped clean this up, but just didn't want to take the chance not being street legal and needing the tune up.

I thought it was Saturday! Heck, I CAN make it. It will be my intent to be there then! Gloves in hand! Well, in the back at least...

Cool! I thought I had missed out. So the Rolls OHV area at or before 8:00am. Look for the primer gray/white 79 CJ5 then!

Right on, Brian! See ya in the morning. My cell is 602-319-9565 if you need it. I can't stay long but I'm gonna try to get there early.

I got a call from Debbie Becker from the FS today confirming tomorrow's cleanup. The FS should have some people out there with us.

Glad to have made it out today and met with several of you. This being the first time I've had my new (old) Jeep off road, I learned something...Anyone got a clue as to why my Jeep would continually flood out when bouncing down the rocky road? It's fine on the street, but it kept stalling on the trail. Pumping the gas didn't do any good, so I'm guessing it was flooding. Any suggestions.

Anyway, all in all I think it was a good day. I think the area looked 100% better when we left then when we showed up.

It was also nice to meet everyone. Rox, Dave, David, W...sorry, don't remember..and there was someone else too. I'm horrible with names, so I'm actually proud I remember that many names.

I'm on the edge now with Sheep's Crossing because I don't want to slow the caravan down because I keep stalling.

Thanks for letting me come along, again, it was great meeting you all!

Like you said... carburator... replace it or rebuild it... strange it only
does it on bumpy roads..

Hey... don't be on edge... the run to sheep's bridge is going to be slow,
from what Frank was telling me last night close to 30 vehicles... no
worries... we wont leave you behind!!!
