Had to use a winch assist (on account of the Jeep not wanting to start)

Probably, It was on the trail at lunch time! It would have been the one that looked about as aggressive as possible while on the back of a tow truck. :smug:

Last I checked this trail is rated 0.00001 due to the fact that it can be navigated by a Jeep with the T-Case in neutral and without the engine operating. :)
And as far as the cost goes; My insurance offers roadside assistance, they towed it to my garage on Saturday and then towed it to the dealer toady. It was all covered too!
The real cost is gonna be when it gets to the dealer and they tell me the fuel filter is clogged. Whats that gonna run me? About $550?

Exactly!!
Mechanic= $65hr Min 3hr
Shop supplies = min $50+
New Fuel Filter = $9.99
Disposal of old filter = $4.99
EPA Fees = $19.99
So you're probably looking at least $280 to $300.
Remember
J= Just
E= Empty
E= Every
P= Pocket
Good Luck Brotha, Hopefully the :angel: of Mercy will be on your side and you won't get raped overy the coals!!

And now for the exciting conclusion!!!
Moore Chrysler Jeep found my problem in under an hour. Evidently, the Wire harness that runs to the fuel tank had managed to re-position itself to underneath the rear axle track bar bracket. This wonderful new location provided the harness with the ability to chafe, ground out on the axle, and finally blow the fuel pump fuse. Rendering my Jeep non-startable with no gas.
And having to post this conclusion has rendered my ego completely deflated.
At this point I am questioning if I should even be allowed to own a Jeep. I am ashamed of myself for not sliding under my jeep and at least looking before I sent it to the dealer. I feel I have tarnished the reputation of Jeep owners everywhere. The only consolation is that I went to pick the jeep up from the dealer in disguise, sporting a nasty mustache that I grow every March, but thats another story.
Here's the breakdown of my shameful dealership bill;
Total Parts: $0.91
Total Labor: $150.95
Who's an *****?: Me
And for all you picture lovers heres two pictures with a red pencil pointing to the location of first the harness properly routed and then one pointing to where the harness migrated to and was chafing. If the pictures seem confusing, please keep in mind that I am too stupid to find a chafed wire and hence probably not qualified to operate a camera:).
Seriously though, the perspective of these pictures is the same as if you were laying on your back looking up with your legs hanging out under the back of the jeep.
The harness properly routed.

Where the harness was and chafing.

The pictures don't offer much depth perception but you may be interested to know that the position of the red pencil in the second picture is about 6-8 inches below where it was in the first picture.
Anyway, thats about it. Feel free to berate me at this point. I see it as penance for my transgressions.

We had the fuel filter replaced on our ' 97 and they had to replace the whole module. Yes, about $550. We lucked out, I had a Warn skid plate put on as they replaced the fuel tank.

I had an issue with a fuel pump fuse blowing due to grounding. It was my fault and a much stupider thing. Forentually I found it before having the tow. Now I carry a bunch of those fueses just in case. On the plus side, you now know how to disable your jeep to keet theives from driving off with it. :)

I believe I have the same thing going on with mine. I've had that same fuse pop a few times when I've gotten hung up. I've been too lazy to figure out where I was grounding out (I knew that's what was going on). Perhaps I'll look at mine in the same area. ;) :)
