bump, switched date to Saturday and will be Box Canyon only since I'm seeing more interest in folks doing a Sat run and wanting to take their families out to the desert while it's still in bloom. Chris

Hey Chris,

Thanks for switching days. I'll be driving over from SE Gilbert, so I'd like to meet at Cottonwood or Price instead of McD's.
I can be there by 9am.

Regards, Frank

I've heard great things about Box Canyon, and you were a good guy to wheel with so I might be able to make this one. I'm trying to bring my camping trip back from the dead, and the TM run is way too early.

How far from my house is the mickey dees

I went through Coolidge to get to Florence (leaving from the Chandler Mall area) and it took about 45 minutes.

If you're coming from Phoenix, and go I-10 to US-60 East to Florence Junction turn (AZ-79), it will probably take you about an hour depending on traffic.

We can meet at the McD's by the gas station in Florence or at the Cottonwood trail entrance/air down spot.

Let me know where you want to meet. It sounds like Frank wants to meet at Cottonwood entrance instead of driving all the way into Florence, which is cool with me.

PM me if you need directions.

What did you decide?

Price Road is the best place to start from for Box Canyon if your going north thru the canyon typical (just north of McD's)!

If you start from Cottonwood you'll go in thru Woodpecker, to Mineral Mountain, to Box and then out Price Rd!

I got my turdy5 bolted back together and I'm good to go!

Count me in.

I'm coming from Ahwatukee (Elliot and I-10) and I have no idea where I'm going (I understand the 60 to az-79 part). Anyone coming from Mesa/Gilbert/Chandler who wouldn't mind me following them?

My wife worked in Florence for a while, and she found it easier to get there from Ahwatukee by going south on I-10 to 387, then east on 387 to Coolidge, then east on 87 to Florence. Take a look on www.mapquest.com and put Florence as the END location and it will map it for you.

I may be in on this trip if my Sunday trip falls through, which it looks like it is.

Sure, I can tag along just to make sure someone knows the route!

Cottonwood @ the flagpole 9am??? (thats quite a ways from McD's) we running backwards?? Cottonwood is usually the exit from Box.

If your still planing on hitting McD's it would be better to enter @ Price and come out Cottonwood!

If your OK with it, let's run from Cottonwood entrance/airdown spot, I'll park on side of road next to Cottonwood entrance so folks know where the turn off is...that way we can avoid having to drive all the way in to McD's.

Thanks for stepping up man! Chris

Alright I've been holed up in the garage for over a month now putting the new XJ beast (the wife actually told me I had to get a jeep of my own after scratching the body and bashing the bumper--come on honey it's a jeep--- on the new JK the last time out, big mistake on her part) together and I need a shakedown run. So as long as I get the front driveshaft back on tonight and finish welding the new 2"x6"rockers on the one side tomorrow then I will be there. And this would be a good run to feel her out....see you Sat. morning.

Looks like my other trip fell through, so I will be making this one instead.

What road is the Cottonwood entrance off of? Is it hard to find?

Cottonwood Canyon Road is off of Hwy 79 about 10 miles north of Florence. Since we are now meeting further north of Florence, it may be quicker to get there from Ahwatukee via Loop 202 to 60.

Take the Loop 202 east to 60, then 60 east to Florence Junction, then south on 79 for about 5 miles. There will be a dirt road on the left (east side) with a tall flag pole, a large square parking area, and a message board with a roof.

Here's a link with a map and driving directions from Elliot Road/I-10:

My map program shows it as 49 miles going the 60 and 59 miles going the 202 but the time to drive the 60 might be longer depending on traffic.

Either way get out to the 79 and take it south 5.4 miles! Lot is on the left with a kiosk and a flagpole! Most people miss it!!:smug:

Chris is having some technical difficulties and cannot log in. He asked me to post this for him. Hopefully he'll be able to log on later tonight.

If you can, would you mind going into my run for tomorrow at Box Canyon under Moderate Trails and post that I'm having technical difficulties getting into the site and if anyone has questions or cannot make the run, they can email me at cross_007@hotmail.com?

I will check email before leaving the house for the run tomorrow morning so I know if someone is not going to make it so we don't wait around for them.
