One of my best friends from back home is coming down to visit for a couple weeks and he's bringing his Jeep down with him. He wants me to show him the desert and what it can do (hes a mudder from the NW) and I thought what better way than to throw an invite to everyone!

So wheres all my westsiders who want to run some trails out in white tanks? We're thinking the weekend of 23rd but because its easter we pushed it out one more week.

Hope to see everyone there :)

White tanks cleanup has been canceled. I would like to go on the 30th. We could do the usual ( apetizer, tie rod and tax collector) and then do some exploring on the west side. I have went out a couple of times by myself so I stayed on the roads. Alot of potencial.

Hi all, this is a general question for you since you are going to White Tanks, My friend and I went to white tanks park two weeks ago, beautiful wild flowers!! I asked some folks and park workers where it is you all go to 4 wheel, I figured it was on the other side of the park? At any rate not one person could tell me how to get to the areas you all go, and 2 park workers said it is not allowed to drive anywhere in the white tanks and that folks cut the fences to do it. I know we do not cut fences and wheel where we are not suppose to. So please can someone tell me where you go, say from the Glendale area? I have looked at the trail section and it really does not say. I want to go out and see more wild flowers, but not in the park. If I was at say 75th ave and Bethany home in glendale where do I go from there to get to an area I can wheel in the White tanks??? Thanks for any directions you can give.

I believe the southern part of the Tanks are BLM land and the northern part as park land. You can wheel on the BLM part with a BLM permit. I've always had one, but have never been asked for it when wheeling. I think one of the BLM sites has a map showing the areas.

Heres an update on the meet info:

We will be meeting at the I 10 and Watson Rd. The road will turn into a parking lot for jeeps you cant miss it. I think sometime around 10 am is good. I like to be lazy on Sundays, especially after working all day Saturday.

As far as trails go I am still learning the area myself. Im hoping someone else will know these trails otherwise we might be in for an adventure :D

I was out there today. Not sure what the name of the trail was. Started out at Watson, passed the sand dunes, then caught a trail north east. Ended up in Verado. The wild flowers were amazingly bright. Lots of colors and blooming cactus.

I'm in for sure, looking forward to knowing the names of the trails. See you at 10:00 am.

Dont worry about it, I've never seen any sort of sheriff or land agency out there. Even if you did they probably wouldnt even look your way - usually their just out to make sure noone is blowing stuff up or dumping oil etc.

FYI: If you have a state trust land permit or whatever your probably 100% in the clear.

OK I had to go find the website for the permit.
http://www.land.state.az.us/programs/natural/recreation_permit.htm
Here you can get a family pass for $20 a year allowing use of State Trust Land all year. No one I know has been asked for one, but I have seen posts where people say they've been challenged. I got one because I thought the money went to a good cause - protecting the land we use. I assume that our support makes us worth keeping in mind when decisions about land use come up.
The same website will give color maps of where the permit allows use and the conditions of use. Of course the maps are color, and I'm color blind so I'll let you do our own interpretation of the maps.

Hello! I just got my Jeep a couple weeks ago and joined this group. I'd like to meet up at white tanks but not sure if my jeep can handle all of it. It's a '59 Willys on a shortened '97 TJ frame/drive train (so mostly '97), 2.5L 4 cylinder, automatic, 31" tires, 3.73 front/rear diff. I'm putting new shocks and brakes on this week. Thanks!

I will more than likely be banned in the morning, so I just wanted to drop you a note to say if there is going to be a leader that knows the trail I am in.....and I will have to be contacted on gojeepin.org/forums under the same name.

This sounds like a huge run. Would you guys consider splitting this into smaller runs with groups running different trails at the same time?

Hey Jamie

I'm with you on this. I want to go but don't want to sit in a parking lot all day. I also want to help get some trash as long as there are dumpsters and we get the go ahead. I've only been on Ruler & Landslide. I want to see the other trails out there.

Washington_XJ
03-26-2008, 07:22 PM
Ok im with you on the parking lot thing but splitting the group now might be a little premature? You know because theres usually always a few who dont show and even though im the "leader" of the group I really dont know the trails that well...

Could we get a couple volunteers who dont mind being infront of me as lead jeep? That way we can maybe seperate if the numbers continue to grow.

PS Who here has CB's ?

Ply_N_AZ
03-26-2008, 07:35 PM
I agree with waiting til the trail head to splinter off. We may not have as many people show up as intended. I'm also all for trash pick up. Just a quick notes, remember to kick the trash prior to picking it up. This is the time of year that all the critters come alive. Maybe even carry a walking stick to poke it first. We don't want to ruin our day with a snake bit.

Xan, I have a cb...hopefully it will be working correctly by Sunday. If not I have 2 fm radios I can also bring along.

if theres to many we can spit and one group do tax collector and firebird and another due tie rod and ??? i'm open to whatever but i agree wait until the trail head to see who shows. we can even take some built rigs and do a harder trail. i usually run channel 4 on the cb.

Cool. I'm glad that we seem to on the same page about maybe having to split up. Even so, I am going to be tentative on this one because I have repairs that I have to get done before going back out. I'll do my best to get things set on Saturday.
