With gas prices and the prices for everything else going up, I'm starting to notice that things are getting tight around here. I'm actually having to make choices about everyday purchases, not just toys and parts.
Anyone else feeling the pinch?

I am dealing with this same issue. I am going back to work starting in June. Retired in 1996 but everything is a lot more expensive now than twelve years ago. So....going back to work...but it's OK. :laugh2:

The wallet is not shrinking in the Wayco/Hardline camp - its more of battening down the hatches and preparing the ride out the storm.

I think that is what I was asking :)
It's gonna get worse before it gets better. :(

Yep - just a bit....child support got disrupted by the ex quitting yet another job, I went back to my civilian job which is a 1,000.00 a month pay CUT, and gas prices started climbing......
Buuuuuuut the taxes just came in and Uncle W. is sending us 600.00 per adult and 300.00 per child.........and my unit is doing a lot of 3 day drills so hopefully things will start getting better.
Totally understand how you feel, Bill!
As for your wallet shrinking, I suggest to stop drying it on the high setting if you feel the overwhelming compulsion to keep washing it :o

Currently I deal with it by not having the time to spend anything outside of the basics.
No time for movies, bars, chasing girls, vacations.
Work 40 plus during the week as a Nurse, then realestate sales, landlording, and remodeling on the weekends.
When I do get time I do something cheap or free like workout or take the dog to the park.
But not all bad, what I do now means that this year I will get back to SCUBA diving and finally get my 53 Willys Pickup back on the road.
I keep picks of the Willys and future dive trips as backgrown on the computer to remind me of the brass rings I am reaching for.

My Jeep has been down for weeks, I sold my "daily rider" motorcycle and have
been carpooling with another guy from work. I saved so much in gas with not daily driving the CJ the past month that I bought my wife a new SUV.
As a service advisor I have it alot better than the sales people at Lexus. Service is more a necessary evil than having to buy a car. I am noticing alot
of people dumping money into there older Lexus's than giving up the ghost and taking on a new payment.
I do see alot of folks not spending the dough on the expensive major services though. Even people with the dough to do so are being cautious with there money.
I think despite being able to drive my wifes old Lexus too work now I am going to go back to carpooling. Good to have someone to shoot the sh** with before and after work and if I am late, it ain't my fault:laugh2:
Just wait though Bill, they are saying a $3.50 a gallon average for the summer. Last summer was $3.12. Think about 3 years from now. Personally I think it's time we all put our spandex on and buy Prius's. (Just kidding Mike)

I drive my Jeep 80 miles a day. It's disturbing when the loan payment is considerably cheaper than the gas total every month. It's going to be a looong summer at these prices

Well the main thing that "they" are blaming the price increase of consumables on is the price of fuel. Our meat doesn't walk it's self to the store and they don't grow the veggies on the spot, dry goods , well you get the picture...
Heck, I had a pair of aluminum cylinder heads shipped UPS ground from Mena, AR to Phoenix... How does $96.00 grab ya in shipping???
Now to answer the original question... When I feel a financial pinch, my tried and true method to raise some "fun money" is to hit some swap meets and yard sales and find some Ebay fodder.... I can tell ya this, I have been selling quite a bit of stuff on Ebay lately....

Luckily we bought a diesel VW that averages 48-50 mpg. We started commuting together to not drive the 10 mpg jeep. We haven't been out wheeling in over a year. $45 in fuel to get to the trail, $45 in fuel on the trail, $45 to get home and another $45 to refill it for daily use. I can find a ton of stuff to do with $180, especially if you like wheeling once a week! that's almost a mortgage payment a month!
Food is starting to get stupid too, can't seam to get out of the grocery store for less than $150 these days.
2 years ago when i was making a little less and paying more in rent i always seamed to have $200 to blow. now i always seam to be $200 short. Everything is getting more expensive, except me. :(

"Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." The US is not letting us down, we are letting ourselves down.
I just got back from Fry's at Bell and Reems. I filled up there Sunday am and diesel was $3.49. Now it is $3.65!!
