So, Ive been doing a bit of reading and have thought up a question:

How long is it going to be before its just not worth it to run at the tanks? All of the BS Buckeye police issue coupled with the dust/particulate issues makes me want to hurl.

For some reason I just have a sinking suspicion that in the end we are somehow going to take the shaft on this one.

Just enter in off sun Valley parkway, little longer drive to the trails but much less hassle.

Keep in mind, that only Appetizer is on STL the rest are all on BLM. If asked inform them you are simply legally crossing the STL to access the BLM land to run the trails.

I agree it is BS. But also keep in mind, those homes that are all the way out by the water tank have been asking for more LEO's. They have had people crossing their properties at high speeds, and bullet holes in their cars and homes. How long before someone gets hit by accident?

With all those new homes coming closer to them, and they have been there forever, people in the new homes allow their kids to go ride there, and shoot. THey also use it as a dumping ground for things that don't fit in the new house. The kids are not paying attention and bullets hit the house/cars, and they don't respect the property and cut across it. They only see it for desert and tear it up. We need a kiosk and almost a door to door program to educate the people out there as to the land they are abusing, and have LEO's out there enforcing it.

The down side is the LEO's don't have a full understanding of what they are enforcing so they are just saying it is closed off. To me, for the yahoos that is ok. Only problem with that is when they see responsible users going out they are going to follow. It is a tough call, but I agree until the park is built on the BLM land, we may lose much of the access to those trails.

Anyone have a map on where to enter off Sun Valley Parkway? It has been years since I ran that portion and while it is a longer drive at least the tires would not be on pavement.

We were there yesterday afternoon (3pm or so), airing up at the end of the pavement, Police were there (1 car) giving the orange tags to the vehicles that had nobody to claim them.

Didnt give us any problem for the 10 min we were there., didnt ask to se STL permits either (we had them though)

you can enter a couple places off of Sun Valley Parkway. One is across from Tarteso main enterence. Another is north at the powerline crossing. All leading back to the trails.

Is there any named trail on the west side of the white tanks? I have been there a few times and I found a lot of places to play.

I think that if you were here, you might see this differently. As long as the valley expands, there will be issues with people who abuse our trails near homes. I have been out there several times in the last month and have not encountered the police. Honestly, I think we would benefit from more enforcement out there. Might reduce the dumping and stolen cars showing up.

Wayco: I absolutley agree with you about more enforcement, however it should be proper enforcement. Having the run of the mill LEO out there not knowing what he should be enforcing is going to cause a lot of problems. I can see a lot of people getting discouraged by that and poaching trails that they either arent supposed to be on, or just getting discouraged with the entire area all together. If the latter happens then I dont think we have a chance of keeping the area open- a lack of public interest(no matter the reason behind it: IE bad enforcement) says quite a bit.

The last time I was out there 2 weeks ago I ran into another bunch of shooters. They were just blasting away with LANDSLIDE as their backstop.
Now I admit that this being the 3rd or 4th group of idiots I mean people out there shooting indiscrminantly I did not approach them with a very "nice" attitude. I basically went up to them and asked them what the h**l they thought they were doing and if they knew that people were in their down range area. "Politely" told them that I couldn't make them stop shooting but that it would be on their heads, legally, moraly, and ethically if they shot someone. Tried to point them in the right direction to go if they wanted to continue shooting and told them that if they had plans to come back in teh future that they needed to clean up after themselves and that it wouldn't hurt if they hauled out a little extra.
They seemed stunned a bit but I don't know if it is because of my attitude that I approached them with or if I actually opened their eyes a little to the risks that they were taking.

Yesterday we went to table mesa for a change of scenery. I could not believe the amount of trash that was out there and the people that were shooting and adding to it.

I am a four wheeling, beer drinking gun nut.....I have enough sense to understand surface danger areas, iherrited risks & responsibilities, and my obligations to my fellow man and the environment.....what the h**l is the rest of these yahoos missing? There are certain things that I can not do because of stupid people that I keep running into.......some where there are a lot of empty villages if you know what I mean.......

Sorry for ranting.....I'll get back to work now.
