View Full Version : Separate technical forums for TJ/YJ/XJ...etc?

Question to the group...

Should we make separate technical forums for each type of Jeep (YJ, TJ, CJ, XJ, ZJ, etc) in addition to having a general forum or should we just keep one large general forum? I think that with the separate sections in ADDITION to the General section would be beneficial to everyone needing model specific information or help rather than a huge section of information. With this it enable you to search for for what you need and be able to search on that specific section.

Let me know what you guys think.

Bill, I like the current format, it allows me to glean info on a lot of topics that transfer to my XJ and J10. It also allows to me to gather info for my neighbor, he has a ZJ, CJ7, and an Xj in the jeep family along with his 69 chevy 4x4. So I like reading in one area that I would probably over look if it were to be split up.
There is my .02 worth . thanks Greg

I too like the current format it is nice seeing everything, I am thinking more over on the search functionality side for the specific models. Or possibly a FAQ Section for the different models.

Personally with all due respect we have such little technical content on this forum there really isn't much of a point. There's not all that much to sift through. :)

While I do realize that, maybe with the model specific sections people would actually post specific tech questions/answers instead of just generalized Jeep stuff and the tech base would build itself.

It's fine the way it is. If we had 2 or 3 hundred tech post a week maybe yes.:)

I'd say NO, as other's have said not enough real "tech" to warrant another area...

Heck half the stuff on here could go away IMO....

How about a General Tech and General Drama?

If you got rid of the General Drama there would only be about 12 posts a week...

My answer doesn't fit in the poll slots. Does it make any sense to have a group with lots of technical know how set ups to threads on the popular or typical subjects? Then peolpe such as myself might find the subject of interest a little more readily. There still can be new threads started by someone as they feel the need.

Such as a Tech/FAQ section I was thinking the same if not by model at least some sort of repository of info. I know there is not that much tech but there is some and it is a great benefit to people just getting into this and have been referred here.

I like the idea. Why not? This "club" keeps expanding, so why not expand? I personally would be able to find whatever I was lookin' for. If I "upgrade" to a TJ, I would be able to go to the "TJ" forum and research what I am lookin' for. It works. My .02. But I only get to read this site maybe once or twice a week. After all it is a Jeep thing but hate to segragate JK,TJ,YJ, etc.... Can't we all just get along. sounds like I'm on the fence, the grass maybe greener but it still does need to be mowed.

I don't think we need to fragment the group any farther than it is already being sliced, and diced...... Well, maybe a new "Drama Forum",,,,,,and maybe a "Butt Hurt Forum". OH, sh*t, where is my fire suit???? :aagh:

I like the idea. It just seems easier to be able to go to a specific model forum to get specific info on that model(call me lazy).
And as I decided to go with the brand spank'n new wrangler JK I've noticed that technical info is definately not interchangable with the TJ's.(probly should have took the time to find a used '06 rubi but I'm still overwhelmingly happy with the JK performance)

ps...quit jk-forum cold turkey today.(didn't like supresion of available product info there/no matter what the reason)

I don't like the idea because I will take tech advise from any Jeep owner, I don't care what they drive, I just need tech help and I would hate for someone who knew not to see my thread because it was in a section they didn't look at often.

If you like model specific forums go to Jeeps Unlimited or the Rubicon forum.
It's nice to see what everyone is doing, besides a lot of us who own TJs or Xjs
have owned CJs or own all three or more types of jeeps and have a lot of
experience with all those models. (Not me).:) :sifone:

Since I did not comment 2 1/2 months ago...........

My opinion is there is just WAY too many common denominators between the Jeep models. Engines, axles, suspension components, trannies, t-cases, etc. A tech question about a 4.0 would miss a lot of benefit from the other sections if it was just confined to the XJ, or ZJs, or TJs, or YJs.

not enough tech posting to justify splitting up the models of jeeps.if it was pages and pages of technical stuff being posted all the time maybe, but it's not

keep it the way it is. i hate that in the the for sale section its all spread out. half the time i only check the TJ section and i neglect to watch the axle section, or the tire section or the "everything else"...i liked it where it was all in one place. too many clicks to see everything.

If you split it up then I'm only going to give advice in the TJ forum, and then you'd loose my expert advice in YJ's, CJ's, KJ's, MJ's and any other *J's I might know the answer to!

There are several other forums that have TONS of tech posts and they chose that format. We are more about wheeling..... or e-wheeling than tech, but we do get and give answers to tech questions. A lot of the jeeps on this site have parts from more than 1 year under them :smug: even more than one make!!

I'd actually support the idea of combining the for-sale forum as mentioned above. It seems like there's not enough trafic there to justify the split.
