Well.. as some of you may know I have been dealing with transmission issues on my jeep forever now.

Well... I picked up a TF904 that will bolt up to my block and is in good shape! So today I started looking at what it would take to make it work... The flexplate that was with my old transmission will not work, the torque converter holes are all wrong. So I pulled the flexplate off the other motor and compared them. It will bolt to my crank just fine, but it is just a HAIR smaller diameter then my stock flexplate. Therefore it will give just a HAIR less tooth to tooth engagment on my starter gear. Does anyone see a problem with this?? What could be my pros and cons???

Or on another note... could I find a way to redrill my stock flexplate holes to accept the other torque converter?? That might be an easy solution as well...

HELP PLEASE!!!!

Thank you all!

The smaller flexplate came from a 2.8L XJ (I think it was an 85).

what are the actual diameter differences? tooth differences?

here is the info on where the 904 was used in jeeps:

The TF904 was used in CJs from 1980-1986 only with the I4 engine. From 1980-1983, the 904 had a Chevy engine pattern for the "Iron Duke" 2.5L. From 1984-1986 the 904 had an AMC pattern for the AMC 2.5L. The 904 was also used from 1984-1986 in XJs and MJs with the 2.5L and 2.8L engine. I'm not sure when they started using the 909 with the lock-up torque converter.
