Yeah But . . . . nothing to compare with 4 Wheelers Supply. AMC 4x4 is pretty
good, and I do spend some $$ with them, they just don't have the selection of 4
Wheelers.
Coyotes . . . . .maybe. Are Zambonies (sp?) considered a 4 WD vehicle?
Cardinals . . . no help there :-)

Hi Gang,
Just a quick note to give a big thanks to Mike Wixom for loaning Bill Hooven
and myself his trailer to go down and pick up those military trailers.
It looks like we'll be picking up four trailers... two complete and two with
tubs and frames but no axles.
Mike,
Thanks for the help. It is people like you who make this group so great to
be associated with. I've got your beer on ice and prepped for delivery
tomorrow.
Kind Regards,

Ditto! I really appreciate it. I've been looking for an M416 trailer for
ages. They're REALLY REALLY hard to find here in the Southwest. These are
imports from Washington state.
In case you all are wondering, here's a pic of what one looks like after
it's been cleaned up, modified and painted (yes I know that's a TLC and not
a Jeep):

So thanks Mike!
P.S. This group is awesome. Everyone seems so willing to help everyone else.
I'll be glad to return the favor!

Glad to help out, besides there was free beer involved :) Those trailers
are awesome. There used to be a couple of old Willy's Jeeps that always sat
down at 4 wheelers supply that had matching trailers like that.

Subject: Re: 4 Wheel Parts Wholesalers Opening in Mesa
Joe and the group,
Interesting approach Joe; can't say I agree with all of it but I
do agree with you on one point. I love to help the "little guys"
to keep going when I can, and I'd like to share my favorite
"little guy" place in the valley.
Ok, boys and girls, quiz time. This is for bonus points.
Anybody know who Earl and Ann Colton is?
I knew you did.:-) Yes, they are the proprietors of
Statewide 4WD Center. Now some of you are scratching your
heads, saying "Who? Who are they"? Well, I'm glad you asked
because they are probably the closest thing to a true mom and pop
run business as you'll ever see. In fact, they ARE the business;
they're the only employees. Ann runs the counter and Earl runs
around playing with jeep stuff.:-)
More bonus points if you've ever been there, and have actually found
the entrance. If you find the sign, you're getting warm. But, just
because you find the sign doesn't mean you've found it. The sign is
in a fenced lot full of military stuff. If you look way in the back of the
lot you'll see a ramshackle house; you're getting warmer. Take the side
street around back; if the gate's open, they're open for business. Now,
they don't open till 10am, they aren't open weekends and they don't
take credit cards. Earl believes in the American dollar and a handshake.
You might not see that as a good business plan, but they've been around
LONG before the likes of Dick Cepek came to town and they're
likely to be around when others are long gone, so they must be doing
something right.:-)
Ok, if there's room to park in the driveway, pull on in, otherwise
park out on the street and walk in. You'll see a Sherman tank named
"Tanker Bell" sitting on the right- go around to the back of the house
and in the back door. In the second door and to the right will be a
counter with a little old lady with glasses sitting behind it; meet
Ann.:-) Ann's appearance can be a little disarming; you wouldn't expect
her to know anything about jeeps, but you'd be wrong.:-)
They cater more to the older jeeps, CJ's and military stuff, but they
are authorized dealers for just about all the name brands (Rancho,
Detroit Locker, Bestop, yada, yada, yada) and carry Dana Spicer
parts as well (bearings, gears, etc.) so the YJ and TJ guys aren't
left out.
Give them a call next time you need something; maybe you'll get a better
price from them, or better yet stop in (finding them is half the fun)
as they love to talk about jeeps. Spend a buck or two to keep
the little guys going; they won't be around forever and when they're
gone you're not likely to see anything like it again...
Oh, and you guys who're going to Vegas or somewhere to pick up
those REALLY REALLY scarce military trailers? Last time I was at
Ann and Earl's they had a whole row of them sitting there with
for sale signs on them...no kiddin...

See now this always happens to me. I'll go and search all over the dang
place for something, find it way too far away, try and get it here and then
find out there was one right near home, sometimes for less money. Let me
tell you, for months I've talked with military antique store owners, called
military surplus places all over the state, talked with Jeep shops, posted
on boards and have never heard of these folks. There is another old timer
with a place somewhere on the west side that was supposed to have some. He
also has tanks, half tracks, etc. I called and spoke with him and he said he
hasn't had M416's for years and we'd be very lucky if we found one anywhere
around here. These are really rare nowadays and I hear you sometimes find
them when you're lucky. If what you're saying is true than I guess we
weren't as lucky as we originally thought but I think we're going to do
alright. Could be worse - we could be heading to Minnesota to get them :-).

Thanks,

Anybody know who Earl and Ann Colton is?
I knew you did.:-) Yes, they are the proprietors of
Statewide 4WD Center. Now some of you are scratching your
heads, saying "Who? Who are they"? Well, I'm glad you asked
because they are probably the closest thing to a true mom and pop
run business as you'll ever see. In fact, they ARE the business;
they're the only employees.

Yeah But . . . . nothing to compare with 4 Wheelers Supply.

Joe and the group,
Interesting approach Joe; can't say I agree with all of it but I
do agree with you on one point. I love to help the "little guys"
to keep going when I can, and I'd like to share my favorite
"little guy" place in the valley.
Ok, boys and girls, quiz time. This is for bonus points.
Anybody know who Earl and Ann Colton is?
I knew you did.:-) Yes, they are the proprietors of
Statewide 4WD Center. Now some of you are scratching your
heads, saying "Who? Who are they"? Well, I'm glad you asked
because they are probably the closest thing to a true mom and pop
run business as you'll ever see. In fact, they ARE the business;
they're the only employees.

I LOVE IT! Another can of worms has been opened. While I've got the floor, are there any good 4x4 shops in Tucson, ( note: Desert Rat does not fit this category!)
Thanks,

Being from Tucson, don't have a clue as to where this place is but am in need of a trailer if they have some. Can you send some more info, (off group?) open weekends, actual general address, phone # etc.
TIA

100% agree w/you Mike.....they are great folks.....although I haven't found the yard yet, I did order a part from them a while back that I couldn't find elsewhere for my CJ (without spending alot).....since they don't take credit cards, I figured I'd have to drive all the way down there to pick up the part.....but no, Ann wouldn't have any of that, she got my address and sent me the part w/a bill enclosed, trusting that I would send her a check.....like you said, not your typical business folks, but great business folks all the same......thanx for reminding me that they're out there....tj

Yeah, Statewide is a cool place and the owners are nice to deal with. I went there for some willys parts. I should take another trip down there to visit, maybe even buy one of those trailers.

Ok, boys and girls, quiz time. This is for bonus points.
Anybody know who Earl and Ann Colton is?
I knew you did.:-) Yes, they are the proprietors of
Statewide 4WD Center. Now some of you are scratching your
heads, saying "Who? Who are they"? Well, I'm glad you asked
because they are probably the closest thing to a true mom and pop
run business as you'll ever see. In fact, they ARE the business;
they're the only employees.
