I want to thank Tim and his wife, Troy, Smitty, and Joe for showing up for breakfast. Although Tim and family didn't show up till 7, it was nice that they showed up to ride over with us. It was a fun time at IHOP and it was really nice meeting everyone. Once again, thank you for showing up that early and we'll have to do it again some time. Frank

Any opinions on how well the factory "TRAC LOC" works?, I believe
they are more of a limited slip Vs a locker, but then again my NP249
is not that though either :). All opinions welcome. - Jose

The traclok is a limited slip. It is an improvement over an open diff.
On a 1-10 scale for traction performance I'd put the open diff at 1 and
a locker at 10. Somewhere around 3 is where I'd put the factory traclok.

The clutchpack in my traclok was starting to get weak at only 12k miles.
These things wear fairly quickly if used well. I have since ran a
Detroit Softlocker in a D44 and now an ARB airlocker in a Ford 8.8. Both
are excellent choices offroad, though the ARB is the better choice on
the street.

It really depends on what you use your Jeep for. Normal dirt trail
running, hunting, camping etc is probably a good use for the traclok. If
you start using your Jeep on some tougher trails and rockcrawling then a
locker is a good upgrade as long as your axle can handle it. I'd avoid
locking up a D35 for instance due to strength issues.

Subject: OT-- Wiring ??

I've got a question about wiring some lights. I've got 2 sets of lights I want to run off 1 switch. The switch is a SPDT,
on-off-on style. What I need to do is have 1 set of lights on in both "on" positions and the other set only on in 1 "on" position. I know I could just add another switch but what fun is that? Anyway don't really want to drill another hole if I don't have to.

Thanks
Keith

Use 2 relays. Feed one relay when in the fisrt on position, both relays while in the other on position.

I thought about that. But wouldn't it feed back thru the "hot" wire from the switch and feed both relays in both positions? Wouldn't you need some kind of diode isolator? What I mean is, beings 1 relay is conected to both "on" positions wouldn't it make both hot in either position?

Keith

Keith,

A diode would resolve that. Or get a heavy enough 2nd relay that can handle all of the lights. That way the splice where the two relays feed the second set of lights won't feed back since it is past the relay. I think you already know what you have to do!

I've got a fairly good idea but it's been alot of years sense I've done any wiring. So things aren't as clear as they used to be.
