Subject: Howell fuel injection?
The old CJ is due for emissions and the carb has taken on a vacuum leak. It has been a problem for the last couple of months but now won't even idle. So the big questions is has any one changed to the Howell fuel injection for their CJ, and does it have any problems going thru emissions? Is it emissions legal?
Or is there another fuel injection system out there that can do the same thing for less money. I am pretty sure that I want to get rid of the carb and all the vacuum lines if possible, unless there is a better carb set up that will keep it legal.
Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Lonnie

Wow! 90 shirts were ordered, and I somehow sold over 100 of them! LOL
A few people ordered and never paid, so those went first. A few people
were from out of town, and those went next.
I am placing an order in the next couple of days to fill in the ones I
sold. If you are interested in some, LET ME KNOW, and I will get them for
you.
Price is as follows: (tax is included!)
YOUTH - Small - Extra Large - $9.50
ADULT - Small - Extra Large - $10.00
ADULT - 2XL - $11.00
ADULT - 3XL - $12.00

Subject: decals
I am looking for someone to take over the job of printing and distributing the AZVJC decals. My job has me travelling all over the place and I don't have time fro wheeling much, not to mention the job of decal management.
There is a down side:
1. You need to front the $$ or find another way of distributing. Today, there is a minimum order of 46 decals at 3$ plus shipping.
2. I use PayPal to pay for the decals so as long as people use PayPal to order them everything works ok after the initial outlay.
3. Many people won't use PayPal. If I continue to do it I will only accept PayPal - it is by far the easiest way of doing this.
4. Unless you jack up the price of the decals you will lose a little money (mostly shipping and postage.) The decasl cost $3 each plus shipping and I charge $3.25 for them. Shipping from the printer is about $7 and PayPal takes a bit for their part each time a decal is ordered.
Other than that, it is a fun thing to do. I have been doing this for nearly 3 years and need someone else to take over.
Any takers??

I don't doubt that at all and I wasn't slamming anyone. I hope that was clear. I just thought the address to apply to was funny.
I know some of the guys that used to work at ORU are looking for jobs in the 4x4 industry. I talked to one of them not to long ago and got the "low down" on what was going on with ORU. He also talked about a new 4x4 shop coming to the valley. If they haven't heard about this place, this post might help them. I know they lurk here.
You mentioned that the new store is going in around CC & Broadway. That's interesting. Only about a mile away from ORU, maybe there is more to this....

I didn't think they knew what a Jeep was in Compton. You would have
to visit Compton to know what I am talking about. There have been
some great basketball players that came from there though.
Thanks for the information Ed, I just couldn't resist.
No, I am not being racist this is the truth, I am not a racist and I
sure wouldn't walk through Compton. To give you an idea, my son went
there for a BB torunament in Compton and walked to get some fast
food. The police stopped him, put him in the patroll car and took him
back to the Hotel. They told him that people of my son's color
shouldn't be walking through Compton alone. My son didn't argue.

Subject: The Coves - a slightly depressing note
After all of our hard work and fun on Saturday clearing things out, I
took a quick run out to the first cove on Sunday. There are already
beer and soda cans starting to line the wash heading down to the
cove, and the fire pit next to where the cook tent was has a major
chunk of a tree in it that looks like it was bodily ripped out, and
tried to be burned (but not successfully - since it is still green).
We can't give up, though - if we want these trails to stay open, it
seems we will have to work for it, despite all of the a**holes out
there who seem to think an empty can is too hard to carry out with
them.

Ray,
Perhaps you should explain your "business" to prospective
employees a little better, because so far all of the members of this
club who have talked to you believe it to be a "hierarchy". (I think
I misspelled it- should have been 'pyramid') You may want to clear
up these misconceptions. Besides, the communication practice cannot

Joe,
With a lift that tall, and assuming he does the SYE and
CV-style driveshaft, I believe you should plan to cut
off and re-weld the rear spring perches - as opposed to
using shims - to adjust the rear pinion angle. I'm
thinking the amount of adjustment that the pinion will
need with 8" of lift would require shims that are too
tall and result in repeated shearing of the spring's
center pin.

For instance, ever see George Carlin on HBO? I think his stuff is funny

Hi Darren,
There are certain things in life that need to be said... regardless of
whether they alienate people. Since it is unlikely that any further
public discussion will lead to anything productive, let's keep it
offline. For those who I offended... shoot me a letter and let me know;
I'd be happy to discuss it with you.
Oh... and for the record... while I may personally be embarrassed FOR
someone in the group who subscribes to the thoughts espoused in the
letter Bill posted, I am not embarrassed to BE ASSOCIATED with anyone in
this group (well.. except maybe for Chris Krieg when he torches his
socks <grin>)... there is a big difference between the two. I believe I
try to go the extra mile for people in this group... and while they may
disagree with my opinions, hopefully they understand that none of this
matters when it comes to Jeeping... It is very easy for me to like
people I frequently disagree with... Bill, Ross, Scott and others may
not agree with my views but I would help them out anyway I could if they
ever got in a bind or if they needed anything.
Perhaps I'll see you at the coves and we can talk about JEEPS!!! <grin>

If it makes you feel better to be embarrassed for me, then so be it.
Your ability to use complex words in your diatribes does not make your
opinions any more or less rubbish than those of the next person. The
fact that you feel you must insult those with differing opinions
indicates to me that you really need to live a few more lives to "get
it", as you put it. I respect your opinions, but I don't feel I have to
insult you to get my point across.
To be clear, I am not personally offended by any of your posts. But
others might be. You have insinuated that those who do not prescribe to
your way of thinking are small-minded, idiotic, racist, single-celled
organisms with a small intellect who you are embarrassed to be
associated with. Since most people in this group (and in real life) do
have differing opinions, you are doing a good job at insulting and
alienating a lot of people.

Also, with regards to steering geometry, I'd suggest both
a drop pitman arm as well as a tie-rod flip kit to get the
drag link angle to be reasonable.
Note: I'm assuming the Jeep is a daily driver which is
the only assumption I can make since no info about the rig's
use was specified. If this is a trail-only rig, then I'd
suggest starting with a drop pitman arm only and see how
it handles before resorting to the tie rod flip or other
steering mods.

Can anyone give me information about "WHO" was at Sycamore evaluating it and

have some "responsibility and ownership" of this area for a couple of years
now. Closure simply means everyone will "move"............... if the users
can build a "play" area............ tire pit, log crawl, rock pile, hill

Subject: will not start.
I have a 2000 wrangler sport that currently will not start.
the problem started about a week ago. late at night we go to leave my
parents house and it doesn't want to start. like the battery is dead.
no lights were left on or anything. I finally got it to fire up and
it dies right away. so I start it again and same result. so I start
it and run it upto 1500-2000 RPMS for a few minutes and then try to
let it idle. Still wants to die. so I ran it upto 1500-2000 again for
about 5 minutes. After that it would idle and restart just fine.
So then a few nights ago we bought a new CD and while waiting for
family at a resturant we listen to the CD for 10 minutes. when I
tried to start it it acted like the battery was dead again. so I get
it going finally let it idle high again for a bit just in case the
battery ins't holding a lot of charge. After that it
ran/idles/started just fine.
Yesterday I go out and it does the same thing and dies instantly. I
try it again and now it has a rapid clicking. Sort of like a toy
machine gun. The odometer seems slow to light when the key is turned
to the on position. I don't understand the clicking. All signs seem
to point to the battery but why it would be clicking I have not been
able to figure out.
Would this be the selanoid? I've never had one click in rapid
succesion like this.
If it where the heck is it (couldn't seem to spot it). also can I do
the old screw driver accross the terminals to get it to the
dealership to get it repaired under warrenty. I really don't want to
have the thing towed.
Thanks for any suggestions you have.
Regards,
Matt

Thanks

I put the Howell kit on a '84 CJ7 with a 258. I absolutely loved it.
It took me half a day to install. Didn't have any trouble passing
emissions. They make a 50 state legal kit now. Didn't when I bought
mine. The only difference if I remember right was a heated O2 sensor?
If you ever plan to sell it or move to CA, I would get that kit just
to be safe. I sold mine to a guy in CA and he had to have it and all
the other engine goodies removed and installed a Mopar kit to pass CA
emission requirements. It may have changed, but in the mid '90s when
I last had it tested, AZ only looked for the charcoal canister and
unleaded gas pump restriction in the filler neck for the visual
inspection part of emissions testing. Hope that helps.

We can't give up, though - if we want these trails to stay open, it
seems we will have to work for it, despite all of the a**holes out
there who seem to think an empty can is too hard to carry out with
them.

Perhaps you should explain your "business" to prospective
employees a little better, because so far all of the members of this

Joe,
With a lift that tall, and assuming he does the SYE and
CV-style driveshaft, I believe you should plan to cut
off and re-weld the rear spring perches - as opposed to
using shims - to adjust the rear pinion angle. I'm
thinking the amount of adjustment that the pinion will
need with 8" of lift would require shims that are too
tall and result in repeated shearing of the spring's
center pin.

The original quote sent by Bill M is the work of a comedian. It is full
of sarcasm and stuff that when read in writing cannot be taken at face
value. It's impossible in the written form to make a distinction between
this sarcasm and the true authors opinion, (if there is any of the
authors opinion in there).
For instance, ever see George Carlin on HBO? I think his stuff is funny
though I may not personally agree with everything said. It's nothing
more than an act. Put on to get laughs and make money. If you read his
act written out it could easily be misinterpreted, if there is even a
correct interpretation at all.
ROTFLMAO at everybody whose panties got bunched up over this.

Hi Darren,
There are certain things in life that need to be said... regardless of
whether they alienate people. Since it is unlikely that any further
public discussion will lead to anything productive, let's keep it
offline. For those who I offended... shoot me a letter and let me know;
I'd be happy to discuss it with you.
Oh... and for the record... while I may personally be embarrassed FOR
someone in the group who subscribes to the thoughts espoused in the
letter Bill posted, I am not embarrassed to BE ASSOCIATED with anyone in
this group (well.. except maybe for Chris Krieg when he torches his
socks <grin>)... there is a big difference between the two. I believe I
try to go the extra mile for people in this group... and while they may
disagree with my opinions, hopefully they understand that none of this
matters when it comes to Jeeping...
<grin>
Kind Regards,
Joe

Since most people in this group (and in real life) do
have differing opinions, you are doing a good job at insulting and
alienating a lot of people.

darren

Also, with regards to steering geometry, I'd suggest both
a drop pitman arm as well as a tie-rod flip kit to get the
drag link angle to be reasonable.
Note: I'm assuming the Jeep is a daily driver which is
the only assumption I can make since no info about the rig's
use was specified. If this is a trail-only rig, then I'd
suggest starting with a drop pitman arm only and see how
it handles before resorting to the tie rod flip or other
steering mods.

Regards,
Matt
