Well I knew I had some travels today, then the wife had some errands and before I knew it I left the house at dawn this morning and didn't roll back in till 2. 3 of my stops took me within spitting distance of AO and after I wrapped up my early morning business in that part of town I swung into AO to see Joe who I haven't seen in a month of Sunday's and the last time I did he was in his old shop.

Joe greeted me when I walked in with the typical Joe smile and asked how I liked it? The black and white checkerboard tile floor reminded of the winners circle at the Indy 500 and it may not be that but for sure its a winners circle. I then toured the shop floor and albeit not sure one could eat off of it, but it would stop me if I dropped a french fry on the floor. They were working on a bright Red Rubicon JK on the rack and Joe and I sidetracked a bit discussing Dynatrac axles for JKs.

Some might say that Joe has come a long ways but not really more like bigger and better. I always like the old shop because it was always clean albeit somewhat cramped with project rigs. He now has plenty of space for projects, spare parts so you won't have to order everything from Timbukto before him and his crew can go to work on your rig.

It was good seeing Joe again and his new shop. If your spinning wheels down that way then it is worth it to see a welcoming shop that looks as good as some of the rigs that roll out of there.

On the other hand if you own a JK or plan on it, then AO is a MUST stop on the way to your Jeep JK experience.

In '65 I went to work as a mechanic knowing that it was better and better hours than punching cows and fixing fence. Later on me and another guy opened a small auto repair shop working on GM cars and that paid my way thru college.

Upon graduation I took a different path but never forgot the smell of a hot engine and cleaning the grease under my fingernails. But most of all I have always been proud of the days I made a living with my hands. To this day I can tell if a guy is a wrench or a broom pusher.

Joe is a wrench and IMO he is as good a wrench to be found on this forum and we have several on here who I admire and respect AND would allow them to work on my rig. Joe has worked on my rig in the past and I would gladly let him do so again.

Joe is one of those few guys that can fix you AC then throw it on a lift and dial-in a set of 4:88 gears and ARB. And have the AC blowing cold and the gears running warm when you drive out...

When you spend time under the hood and under the belly of a car and at a race track like I did...after awhile you learn who is all hat and no horse...Joe knows:)

That was my Red JK at his shop today. Joe was working on one of those hard to figure out problems with my front locker. He does great work and stands behind it 100%. His new shop is a great upgrade and it will allow him to expand and grow.

I won't give up my wheels and tires just yet, I still have the memory of tightening all of those bolts in the beadlocks :)

Thanks Joe for getting my locker working so I can go play in MOAB...

I stopped in unannounced a couple days ago, introduced myself, and Joe came out to look at my rig and we chatted it up for about 30 minutes or so. One of his techs spotted a small air leak in my AiRock compressor fittings...so I was able to take care of it before I broke on the trail. He gave me some sound advice about my rig. Not what he would like to sell me for it, rather to spend time in it on the trail and get to know it before I make any snap decisions.
I consider myself a good judge of character, and Joe Daro is a good dude in my book.

Thanks again Joe.

Don, It was good to see ya today!!! Sorry I was so slammed with the phone and such, but at least I got to show ya around a little bit!! Just remember, dont ever second guess the JK idea..... We can get those Pro Rocks to work on a JK....:) And BTW, There may be a few places on those floors that ARE clean enough to pick that fry up under the "10 second" rule....:)

If you would have asked me 4 years ago if I would be where I am today, I would have said " I sure do hope so". It was some hard times right at the beginning, when I left 4 wheelers Supply, I had about 5K in savings. Right after I wrote a big check to get into my first shop, My daily driver truck was stolen.... I had to start a complete business and have zero income for 2 months, as everything came around. There were many of my friends that were behind me with all of the support they could offer, and I will NEVER forget them for pushing me harder. There were many times of eating Kraft easy mac and drinking cheap soda too,( I have my wonderful loving wife that beared that too and stood behind me and supported me 100%) I will NEVER forget that. But would I change anything? NEVER. I set out with the goal of being one of the premium, innovative shops in the industry that offers exemplory customer service under ANY circumstances. Thanks for the props Don, It really means alot to me.

Thanks Joe!! It was great to meet you one on one. I am always proud of my employees when they find stuff like your leak BEFORE there are any problems on the trail. Look forward to seeing you on the trail in the future!!

Yea, I like those Red Jeeps and am struggling with:

1) Sell mine. Buy/swap parts from mine and build JK Rubicon and using my ProRocks etc etc etc

2) Build rig using aftermarket frame for CJ, drop in GM "RamJet", 350 cu in, 350 hp, 400 lbs of torque way, WAY down lowww and FI. This engine is a stump puller.

3) continue to build on mine

And on those Walker Evans you have. You might want to take a look at this: http://www.savagesun4x4.com/how_to_stuff/walker_evans_beadlock_manin.html

This thread is in the wrong forum. If it is a review (though I don't really see what it being reviewed here) then it should go here:

Can we get a moderator to take care of this ?
