View Full Version : Sunflower Loop set for Sunday 3/9

April wants to take some friends on this trail. I am very familiar and will lead it.
I know it's been done over and over, but it's still a cool trail.

12 rigs or so should be about enough. This trail is easy for the most part. There are a couple of steep hill climbs with lots of loose rock on them, and some creek bed where you'll bust grocery getters all to pieces. I would say 33" tires and some lift will get you through with some scraping in the creek. Front and rear tow points may come in handy if your rig is average. I'd give this trail a 3.0 rating...firm.

All you regulars that I normally invite via pm are of course welcome and I hope some of you can make it. Anyone else...post up and I'll add you to the list.

Meet at airdown spot at 0900, on our way by 0930.

Trailhead is north of Sunflower on AZ87 (Beeline), Milepost 222. Top of the hill approaching exit for Mt. Ord to the right...be in the left lane and it says Sycamore Creek left turn. Follow winding road about a mile until you come to a dirt road on the right with a cattleguard at the entrance...turn onto this road and follow until you come to a wide open spot on the right. If campers are taking that space...keep going...I'll be on CB channel 24.

OK...we're getting a little big, but I'll add the ones that have asked to this point and that's gonna have to be the limit.
I was shooting for 12 thinking I might get 8-10.
Didn't realize I was this popular. OK...maybe it's the trail and not me.

Ft McDowell...at the light across from the casino, right hand side.

Clay
03-09-2008, 06:22 AM
The fuel across from Ft. McDowell is kinda expensive. I will stop at the last circle K on the right on Shea before you get to the B line highway. It is about 2 or 3 miles from the Ft. McDowell fuel station.

Great run today. No carnage that I know of except for April putting a smoosh into the left side of her rear bumper to match almost perfectly the smoosh I put on the right side a month ago.

Everyone seemed to enjoy what I think is one of the most enjoyable trails for all skills and rig capabilities out there.

The dog puked in April's JK...hahaha.

My AiRock had a failure that I didn't figure out until we got back to Samdog's house...and all is good with it now. Left rear sensor failure...reset...back to normal. Luckily it wasn't an issue on the trail.

Thanks very much to all of you for joining us...awesome group of wheelers. You all are welcome on the trail with me anytime.

Believe me Billy...the thought had crossed my mind. It really was nothing though. Had I done like Mac told me to and downloaded the PDF file he sent me...I could have fixed her up right then and there. I played with it for 5 minutes at Joe's place and figured it out...a simple reset...no biggie.

I would have to agree that this was a great run. We even saw a bob cat and took a picture! Just goes to show you that Rich in the creek is not the only person who saw a bobcat this month. I only got fourteen pictures with my camera due to a low battery. I am in the process of uploading video taken by yellow x's wife to you tube.

Glad it wasn't a complete system failure, just the little bit of time I spent under your rig reminded me too much of a race car than a rock crawl'n Jeep... I'm sure you'll soon be the AIRock wizard and know everything there is to know about your new to you rig......

I may have to be. I'll give it some time though. I find more loose bolts on this thing every day. Mac sure loves his zip ties too...geezus H. I bet there are at least 500 zip ties under the hood alone.
If you lined up all the zip ties end to end...they might reach his front porch in Henderson NV.

Here is a collage of some of the videos I took. I was waiting for you tube to finish it's process with the up loads when I decided to go to bed last night. When I got up this morning, I see one video had been viewed four times and the other that I misnamed as May of 08 had been viewed once. I have corrected the name to March of 08.

This one has a great quote in the middle of the footage. Hence the name.

I didn't do any of the video recording. It was the yellow_x's wife who courageously volunteered to do all the videos. Of course I will erase any girl like screaming that came from your mouth. What are jeeping friends for? What happens on the trail, gets posted in the forum. Kinda like that Vegas saying.
