Looking at making a trip down Turkey Creek this coming weekend, any takers?

What day and how well do you know the tricky crossing?
I think the water may still be running too high to make it without filling the tub with water...but let me know if you know different.

I and three others hit the trail this past weekend, 2 of us we rubi's and two were open with one being a 4 banger. The 4 banger had a few problems, but other than that all made it in one piece. As for what day I need to get with my better half and see what works best for her. I will let you know.

What time do you expect to be off the trail? Do you come back to Phoenix using the same Bumble Bee exit?

The time is up in the air, it all depends on the amount of BS'n, the amount of jeeps and the level of the jeeps, but it would be safe to say 2 to 3 pm and we will end up in Cleater and end up at the starting point.

Where exactly is the air down spot? I assume this is the Bumble Bee exit that takes you up the front way to Crown King (I think it is 248). Is there a place to park a trailer?

would need specifics regarding the difficulty of the trail... like a rating?

count me as interested, but need to know if I'm well enough equipped.

I would say the trail would be a 3 and that is only because of the amount of water. The weekend of the 1st there was 4 jeeps, 3 with 3.5 RE lift and myself with a 4.5 RE, all on 33's and the only jeep with issues was the 4 banger and that was due to the lack of power to turn the 33's in the water. You will have water reach at least the frame if you stay on the shallow side.

We completed Turkey Creek--and a little side exploring. It was fun to get out into some pretty country. We ended up in Cleator. A few decided to drive up the road to Crown King and then down the back road to Lake Pleasant (post up and let us know how it went). The rest of us came back to the valley through Bumble Bee. Nice meeting you all.

Only real carnage...My front passenger shock tore through the tower. I noticed the shock during a stop and a few heavy washers later we were back in business.

Hi, Sunday if you are interested I am going to either run the Dupont Cabin run that some of our group did last weekend, or I am going to Christopher creek and hike the Horton trail that runs along the creek. It is going to be mid 90's Sunday so I am heading to higher country. Anyone is welcome to join, I am up for either, hiking or Dupont...:D

Is this Turkey Creek run going to happen this Sat (4/12). I know there is a little confusion going on since the original post was for a run in March. I am looking to have some fun on sat also and looking at my options...

I might be up for this. what time do you want to meet and where?

Digger
04-11-2008, 03:21 PM
I'm in, for sure! I think we should get a early start, suppose to hit 90° tomorrow. Who's lead?
Meet time ..8:30am. At the airdown spot where people leave their trailers.

Digger
04-11-2008, 03:25 PM
I think the water levels will be fine. If there is no lead, I'm in for an adventure.

I,m in. I've never ran it but a adventure sounds good to me. 8:30 is good.

Digger
04-11-2008, 05:24 PM
ok then, 8:30 it is. Do you know where I am talking about for airing down?

wolfman
04-11-2008, 05:57 PM
Digger the water level is not fine. You had better know the lines or its gets pretty deep in spots.

Digger
04-11-2008, 06:17 PM
Is the water cross popular? Is there evidence of where everyone crosses?
If not, then we'll find another trail.
Does anyone have grief about doing another run up that way? I'd be happy heading up towards Prescott, there's a forgotten ridge up there, been years since I played there.
How about a visit to the Draw in Payson?
I sent a pm to someone who knows the Turkey Trail, see if he gets back to me.
In the mean time I have to run up to the store and exchange my camera. be back in an hour.

wolfman

The BumbleBee exit, and watch, cause it comes up on you kinda quick. take your first left and head westward. you'll know the airdown when you see it.
