Subject: Use 2003 for a Full Size Jeep, anyone else with an unusual use?


My father and I were attempting to knock down that last part of the brick wall to my side yard so we could install a double gate in place of the single gate my house came with. This is so I will be able to park my Jeep on the side of the house. Very satisfying using 10# hammer, chisels, drills. Last part didn't want to come down even when we drilled the base all around in 1/2" increments. 78 Cherokee to the rescue. Moved a little nudging it, then backed off about 2 feet and knocked it half over. We knew the cinder block was full of cement but this exposed the real problem we hadn't considered, rebar. cutting wheel on the grinder and Timber! Who else has an unusual use for their Jeep?

I'm not sure what you saw, but I don't think it was water... Water
doesn't bead up on brake fluid like it does with gasoline or oil. I am
envious of your e-brake that works, though...

Maybe at 4 Wheelers they are more respectful of the walk-in customers. I
can't tell you how upsetting it was the two times I went to DR to wait
for the guy behind the counter to get off the phone. You know the
situation. You were five people back, you have waited 20 minutes and now
you have finally made it to the counter. You are just about to tell the
parts guy what you want when the phone rings and he tells YOU to please
wait while he gets the phone and proceeds to delay you another five
minutes while he goes in the warehouse to check for an in stock (or out
of stock) item. I agree using the phone is great and may save you time
and money but at the store the phone should be given a number for the
queue and wait like the rest of us. HUMPH! There I said my peace!! :)

That's contrary to what I've seen at Desert Rat. At Desert Rat you have
to wait until the guys behind the counter stop BS'ing and decide to help
you.

I always ask for Barry at 4 Wheelers. Its worth the wait.

Actually, yes, they are usually busy....I have been in there at all
times of the day, 4 or 5 people working behind the counter, and not
ONE of them just standing around.....

What Joe is trying to say here is there are allot more groups("Minorities",
if you will) that have jumped on the "Let's bash Whitey" bandwagon.

it sounds like Joe is pretty darn upset that this individual didn't LIST any

Umm, Joe the language needed to survive here would be English.
I can think of 3 reasons why an American citizen would not learn English:
1). They are too lazy, or given the perfect excuse as allowed by people who
share your loose liberal views
2). The opportunity isn't there for them
3). They are incapable mentally
Either way, I think people like yourself should focus more on teaching them
English instead of defending them in some email post.
You got a chance to make a difference here, don't blow it!

My Rockcrawlers (American Racing 767's) ran about $30 each, new from Discount. They might be more if you need/want an uncommon backspacing, though.

When I lived in Colorado Springs I used to like to go and check
out a really cool shop called Predator Four Wheel Drive. They have
since grown and have become a great store. Anyway, when they had
customers in front of them and the phone rang, they would politely
excuse themselves from the in-store customer and answer the phone
saying something very much like "Thank you for calling Predator. We
really appreciate your call, and will be with you as soon as we are
finished with the customer we are helping here in the store." And
they would either get that call as soon as they were done, or whoever
was available would grab it. They exhibited outstanding customer
service, and their business has grown because of it. They went from
a 3,000 sq ft store and warehouse to a 12,000+ sq ft store a few
years ago. Not that this means anything, it just reminded me of
their store. Anyone who heads to Colorado Springs should stop in
there and say hello.

I was checking my fluid and that's when I saw water beads rolling across the surface of the fluid. I haven't seen any difference in the way it brakes but I've been trying to work with it for 3 days. for those days I've been using the e-brake to stop. Hopefully I can shed some light on what is on the estimate. I am a
professional autobody tech with many years experience as both a
technician and as an estimator.

First, the paint. 8.7 Hours of paint labor sounds about right for
painting one panel that is replaced (fender), the flare, and blending
into the adjacent panels. With almost all modern colors, you cannot
paint only the panel being repaired/replaced and insure a good color
match, so you need to fog the color into the adjacent panels, then spray
clearcoat over the base color. The labor times for doing this are from
one of three major guides that are used throughout the industry and
accepted as fair times for the indicated operations.

Paint Supplies. This is not labor, but the charge for the paint,
sandpaper, masking tape, and all other materials that will need to be
used in doing the repair. Pricing the materials based on the paint
labor hours is the industry accepted way of computing the charge for
materials. I have seen one or two posts stating that you can get a
paint job including some bodywork for $1500. This is true, but you get
what you pay for. To paint a complete vehicle with good quality
materials, it will cost you half of that just for the materials.

Body labor. 8.7 hours to replace the fender and detrim (remove all
bolted on parts) from the adjacent panels for paint sounds about right.
When the adjacent panels are painted, all parts must be removed from
them or your paint WILL, not may, peel around those parts that were
masked off. No reputable shop will mask the trim unless you
specifically asked them to and they make sure that you understand that
it will fail and they will offer no warranty on it.

Without seeing the damage, it sounds as though the charges are pretty
well in line with what any quality shop will charge.

If you have any questions about any other charges listed on the
estimate, let me know. I would also be glad to compare the estimate to
the damage to insure that the estimate legit. (on a weekend).

Got a copy of the quote for repairs. It does include painting. It
appears to include painting at least the entire side of the Jeep!
It's from Pitre and the parts are priced the same as what I got from
Darner, but they added all the decals for that side of the Jeep.
There are no decals on the fender and that is what is being replaced.
There are 2 scratches on the door panel that are 1" long and so thin
that you have to use your fingernail to feel them that he says were
caused by my Jeep. That is on the list to paint, too. The labor
breakdown reads like this:

Body labor = 7.7 hrs
Paint labor = 8.7 hrs
Paint supplies = 8.7 hrs
For a total labor cost of $882.20

I don't know about the rest of you, but that sounds like a lot of
labor to paint 1 new fender and 1 new flare. Must be paying someone
to watch the paint dry between coats. I want to see his Jeep fixed
right and restored to the condition it was in before my Jeep hit it.
I'll pay a fair price for that, but I'm not paying to have a scratch
he got in his door from a grocery cart repaired and his entire Jeep
repainted for a dent that didn't even crack the paint in an easily
removable fender. I've "learned a lesson" in the past. The lesson is,
watch out for yourself and your friends or people will try to screw
you. This quote is a good example of someone trying!

Once you get past finding if it is a Dana 35 or not.
To find out if it is a C-clip or not just pull off the wheel,
The non c-clip axles will have a hole on the axle between the wheel studs to
allow in removing the bolts and plate that hold on the axle
C-clips axles will not have this hole because the axle is removed after
removing the c-clips.
