Took about five weeks but now I have my own 'unique' plate for my Jeep. Plus now any other hams on the board will know who it is in that little red Liberty :p

Looks good!

When I ordered mine I didn't do it as an Amateur Call sign.

Yeah, I could have gone the regular personalized plate route and probably gotten it in less time but I like the look of the Ham plates :D

That's cool. I may just have to do that to my XJ.

this may be a stupid question but what is so special about being a amature radio operator what is it that you are allowed to do now

Not stupid at all since most people now-a-days have no clue what it is. Mainly for me it is the thrill of sitting down at the radio, tuning in another ham from somewhere else then keying the mike and talking to them. I've talked to folks as close as here in the valley on two meters and as far away as the South Pacific on my HF (shortwave) radio. With the internet and everything it doesn't seem that big a deal to have instantaneous communications around the world but for me it just hits my 'way cool' button. Plus on the trail it can be very helpful to have a radio that can get out when the cell signal is long gone and no one can here you on the CB or FRS radios.

Hope that answered your question.

I like the look of those plates ALOT. However, I am sport'n my Veterans Plate, which I hold closer to my Heart. I guess I could always put my call sign on the Vets Plate, but that would be a double whammy on the price and I'm a cheap sucka!

Congrats on the Ham Plate.

Terron, this is a thread I started a couple of months ago. It has some interesting info about ham.
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/showthread.php?t=29024&highlight=ham

Also, there is a Ham Forum in the Off-topics section with several threads that will give you some insight into what we use the ham radios for.

The ham radio provides for clearer, stronger (transmit further) signals that can not be duplicated by cb and ham can transmit where cell signals are non-existent. I think in my thread there is a link to a post where a jeeper got stuck and was able to use the ham to get help when he didn't have any other type of communication that was working. He had cb, cell service and friends. The friends were out of earshot, including cb, and no cell service. The ham radio got him help.

Hope this helps.

Cool plate Kevin.

I still have mine from Colorado where they are still free to get.
I like the tower image on the plates in AZ. In CO the only thing different on the plates is a small SPCL for "special".
