Scott,

The time spent on write ups is amazing. At ten hours that is almost
longer than installing the tranny, isn't it? :D Thanks for the
effort, ahead of time. I haven't read it yet, I will probably get
some time to do so this weekend.

Then my sincerest apologies to you Joe.

But didn't you say "bite the bullet ... let the guy with the damaged Jeep get it fixed where he wants ... and this has nothing to do with the cost; she should pay whatever it costs."?

I think Anthony was paraphrasing someone. Was it not you?

So Joe here you go a cut and paste of what I posted earlier.

Just my opinion but it is thinking like this "then let that be a lesson and get the damage fixed regardless of the cost, even if the cost is BS" that drives insurance costs up. Have a cracked windshield? Let your insurance company pay for a new one and a month of dinners at your favorite restaurant instead of passing a discount to the insurance company.

Just My Opinion.

Scott,

If you print it out there is no purple.

At 66 pages its perfect for the bathroom reading rack.

I checked and if you do a print preview it comes out nicely. I also
discovered that if you were to print the entire article out it would be
66 pages long. That makes it one of, if not the biggest writeups on any
1 Jeep subject that I've ever read.

If I worked on this for 10 hours that's 6.6 pages per hour. Not too bad.
I think this definitely pushes my time for the entire swap way over 60
hours (not including however many hours Stu helped me). That includes
well over a dozen hours pouring through XJ and TJ wiring diagrams. This
is the type of behind the scenes work that you don't actually see in the
writeup, but obviously it's in there.

On my monitor and the 3 other monitors I tested it on, it wasn't too bad
on the eyes. If you guys think it's an issue I can tone the colors down
a bit. Of course most of that is probably just some friendly ribbing :D

All right! So, I was not the only one that mentioned the purple! LOL

My teenage son once told me that my web site pages (with the light gray
background) were kind of dull. I explained to him that people came to
read the write-up and look at the pics. Black text on light gray is
easy on the eyes....it is not dull.

If they want art, they need to go to the art gallery! LOL

Hi Joey,

Perhaps he was paraphrasing me& but if so& his added even if the cost is BS didnt come from me. I recommended that the person be smart and review the quote.

I did however, say that the person getting the repair done had the option of choosing the place they wanted it done and regardless of where the person chooses, the individual who caused the damage should pay the cost& whatever it may be.

Im pretty particular and I wouldnt let anyone choose my repair shop for me ESPECIALLY if their goal was to find the most inexpensive repair facility possible.

You see& the goals of the two parties involved are mutually exclusive& one wants it cheap and one wants it right. Generally, you can have one or the other, but not both.

My experience in body shops is that you *almost* always get what you pay for&

You pay cheap; you get cheap.

Repair and paint is an art& some can do it right; most absolutely cannot (not to my standards anyway).

Enough said. I suspect I made my point and whoever paraphrased me should hone up on their paraphrasing skills

Kind Regards,

Joe West

Just looking at my list of shows that my TIVO is going to record in the next two weeks and noticed that on Monday the 11th at 1pm Eastern Time, the History channel has a 1 hour program called "The Big Rigs of Combat:Jeeps - combat car, snowplow and ambulance" Just in case any of you might be interested in watching it. Also recently the Outdoor channel has had some really good stuff on one of its programs called 4x4 TV......Terra Del Sol in CA, Moab, 4WD off road racing, SkyJacker extreme rock crawling championships..........check it out, some NICE rigs! History Channel, Discovery Channel both have had 1 and 2 hour programs on the history of the Jeep and 4x4's (most of it was Jeeps) in the last month or so.

This is a partial 40 horse power kit from Turbo city. I have a bored throttle body, air tube w/k&n; air filter, crankshaft position sensor, and tuneable map sensor. The part missing to complete it would be a free flowing exhaust system. The electrical parts were never installed and are still in the bags. Remember guys this does not require a core charge you can keep your old equipment thus saving a lot of money.

Yo! I have parked infront of my apartment, an 88 Jeep with 254k mi on it with a rebuilt motor... which now has about 50k on it... exterior paint needs to be redone due to fading... a few small dents. It has a 3" lift or so, looks like RE maybe... the front end shakes really bad at 45 or so and you have to stop to come out of it pretty much... I think it can be fixed easily by adjusting the trac-bar or just getting an alignment. The shifter has to be shifted from 1st to 4th, but I believe can be easily fixed by myself... Interior.. who really cares? But its decent too :) No stereo thats all.... also has manual everything...

I can snag it for $1500... should I take it or leave it?

Are mods expensive for XJ's? I will be wheeling it moderatly, when im too lazy to get up in my jeep or shift :) Can it pull my TJ (mwahaha pun intended) if I put a V8 in it?

I will probably use it as a project, then daily driver so I wont be doing any larger than 38's :) j/k I will settle for 33's... after all... its gonna be my luxurious towing vehicle, the one that actually does the real rock crawling :) Along with no more sleepless nights in the front seat of the TJ with no doors or windows... The heater does no good without those two compliments...

Please throw me your suggestions..

Thanks,

thought it was a great idea and it certainly did help with all the new faces

weekend at the Coves Cleanup... Maybe some of the old-timers (meaning long
time/original/people with good memory ability, etc.etc..) will know most of
the people in attendance. But I am willing to bet that most people will
not... Point being that I think it would be a good idea to do name tags at

Joe West

Then my sincerest apologies to you Joe.

But didn't you say "bite the bullet ... let the guy with the damaged Jeep get it fixed where he wants ... and this has nothing to do with the cost; she should pay whatever it costs."?

I think Anthony was paraphrasing someone. Was it not you?

yes you are correct. I believe it was Joe West I should have copied or directed it to.

So Joe here you go a cut and paste of what I posted earlier.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just my opinion but it is thinking like this "then let that be a lesson and get the damage fixed regardless of the cost, even if the cost is BS" that drives insurance costs up. Have a cracked windshield? Let your insurance company pay for a new one and a month of dinners at your favorite restaurant instead of passing a discount to the insurance company.
Just My Opinion.
Scott,
I would recommend that you tone it down just a bit... mute the background so
it's a little easier on the eyes... it's just a wee bit bright.
I think you'll find yourself doing a few changes as you polish it up a bit
and get feedback from people who read it... which will add some time to how
long it actually took to create it; you're not done yet!
The cool thing is that you'll be surprised at how many people will reference
it and how many Jeep folks you will be helping out. Sure makes you
appreciate how much work people like Chris Krieg and Stu Olson put into
their web pages. My page looks like crap and I have well over a hundred
hours into it... <sigh>
I checked and if you do a print preview it comes out nicely. I also
discovered that if you were to print the entire article out it would be
66 pages long. That makes it one of, if not the biggest writeups on any
1 Jeep subject that I've ever read.
If I worked on this for 10 hours that's 6.6 pages per hour. Not too bad.
I think this definitely pushes my time for the entire swap way over 60
hours (not including however many hours Stu helped me). That includes
well over a dozen hours pouring through XJ and TJ wiring diagrams. This
is the type of behind the scenes work that you don't actually see in the
writeup, but obviously it's in there.
On my monitor and the 3 other monitors I tested it on, it wasn't too bad
on the eyes. If you guys think it's an issue I can tone the colors down
a bit. Of course most of that is probably just some friendly ribbing :D
All right! So, I was not the only one that mentioned the purple! LOL
My teenage son once told me that my web site pages (with the light gray
background) were kind of dull. I explained to him that people came to
read the write-up and look at the pics. Black text on light gray is
easy on the eyes....it is not dull.
If they want art, they need to go to the art gallery! LOL
Wow! I know who to call when I find my AW4 to swap in!
That is an absolute incredible write up Scott!
BUT, man, that purple really hurts the eyes after a while....
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but won't the newer XJ axles be the c-clip style?
The 90YJ SHOULD be the non c-clip version. So I don't think these would work for you.
Don't take this to the bank yet, though. See if someone else steps in with an ABSOLUTE positve response...if there is such a thing! ;-) I know Jeep went to the c-clip rear axle around 90 or 91...do you know what version yours is?
Will Dana 35 axle shafts from a 96 Cherokee fit a YJ? Got a chance
to pick up some trail spares real cheap.
