Awesome! My general status posted today too!

I'll be monitoring the same 2 repeaters the net is on if you wanted to make a contact tonight.

He passed the amateur radio technician test on Feb. 19 and you have to wait until the FCC posts your call sign before you can transmit. They posted him and a few other jeep hams this afternoon.

If it wasnt for the cost of the gear I'd join you guys, but that chit is spensive!

and my HOA would give me greif on the antenna!

Allen,
A good complete mobile set up can be had for under @$200.00 brand new.
But just like anything, you can spend alot more!

Also, if you are good, you can hide the base antenna from the HOA. Heck, a good J-pole gets you just about anywhere, doesn't cost much, and is fairly small.

Yes it can. I've been pricing radios lately to see about getting one to dedicate to APRS and I'm just amazed at what you can get for that price range. You can get a nice little Icom or Yaesu 2 meter rig for around $140, throw the other $60 into a nice antenna and mount and your good to go. Or you can go handheld and get a radio for around $150 depending on what you want. Yes you can spend more (some spend a LOT more) but the way I see it I'd rather have fun making contacts than trying to remember which of the 300 buttons on my radio I need to press.

And again, congrats to all our new Ham members! This is turning out to be a nice little sub-section of the club :D
