Joe,
If you could find that info, I would be very appreciative. I
thought that $300 for a new compressor/clutch/pulley was kind of
steep, but not too unreasonable. However, any $$$ I can save will
make the set-up even better. Thanks for the help.

fittings I went to a couple of ACE and True Value

Subject: [TR] Broken Arrow - Saturday, November 16, 2002
Hello All,
Thane Madrid is leading a Broken Arrow trail run on Saturday, November 16, 2002.
When: Next weekend. We will leave from Show Low around 6:00 AM. Not real sure when we will get there.
Where: This is the first time for me. I know that this isn't a hard run, but I enjoy all kinds. We are coming from the White Mountains and going through Flaggstaff to get there. So I guess if anyone wants to join us we can meet somewhere near the trail entrance. Hope to meet some new friends on the trail.
Rating: 2.5+
Length: 2 to 3 hours
CB Channel: 04
Broken Arrow is a fun trail with great scenery. A stock Jeep can make this run and there are areas for those with built rigs to test and flex their suspension, such as the Crack. Pay attention to the signs, as part of this trail is a one-way loop.
A lot of Pink Jeeps share the trail so please put your best foot forward while representing our club. For many of the passengers on those Jeep tours, you are the first real off-roader they have ever seen (gosh, that is a scarey thought!) You will find that most of the pink drivers are pretty cool!
The Devil's Staircase is fun, and some members have been known to run it bottom-to-top. If you do, please post a look-out at the top to prevent someone from coming down while you are trying to go up.
It usually takes a couple of hours to make the loop, which allows ample time for pictures and a stop at Chicken Point for lunch (you did bring lunch, didn't you?)
Enjoy and remember to TREAD Lightly!

Lachlan,
The guy you want to talk to is Roger Thomas I think he got quite a bit
of stuff from Brad Kilby. I kinda modeled my set up after Roger's. The
only thing I bought from Kilby was the pulley for the starter though.
This pulley adds a v-belt to run the compressor.
About the compressors... I got the first one from a fellow member for 15
bucks. It was the 8.69 CI with a large pulley. The second one I got by
trading the first one. It was the larger 10.3 CI with the small pulley.
What a difference in air flow. Well that was short lived because the
bolts holding the bearing cap on the crank came off and destroyed the
connecting rod. Not wanting to give up the High CFMs I became accustomed
to I headed to AMC 4x4 Salvage over on West Belmont in Glendale. They
sold me a York out of a FS Jeep for $65. Works great! I think Roger
scoured a junk yard and got a York out of a Volvo for $25 (I think) but
he had to pull it.
I made my mounting bracket, manifold and wired the pressure switch.
Scott K. helped me with my air tank. If you have any questions let me
know, I can help.

Ray,
Kidding aside, the real Hummer is an awesome tool.
[Not the GM joke box] It's different than a lot of our
rigs which - at least form me - are pretty focused on
rock crawling.
I wheeled in Moab with 3 hummers and 3 jeeps, a built
Range Rover and a very customized Dodge PU/Cummins
Diesel [owned by the guy who owns Stinger Off Road
Stuff]. The Hummers took different lines - but they
were cool. And it took some skill to get the brake
modulation down to make the Ltd slip work for you.
[I lost it in Hells Revenge and had a Hummer Pull me
out. I felt no shame.]

One of the guys on the 10-21 Broken Arrow run (I think his name was John, he drove a red YJ) had a nice set up using a Co2 Tank. Other than the cost of the tank and fittings, it costs $5 to fill it up each time and holds more than enough air to fill 4 tires.......seems to me that this is not only a more economical set up but easier to install (yeah, strap the bottle to your roll bar or rack). He said that he has been running with it for a while and loves it.

If you could find that info, I would be very appreciative. I
thought that $300 for a new compressor/clutch/pulley was kind of
steep, but not too unreasonable. However, any $$$ I can save will
make the set-up even better. Thanks for the help.

I just bought the pressure switch, and adapters for
the compressor pressure/suction fittings. I couldn't
find a comparable pressure switch for less than $40
[NAPA] but I'm not as experienced as Joe. The other
fittings I went to a couple of ACE and True Value
stores who had way more variety that the Home Depot
near me.

[I lost it in Hells Revenge and had a Hummer Pull me
out. I felt no shame.]

it drives your York... wow... that must be some serpentine belt you got
going there.
