LOL. Me too. I filled out a notebook on what was in
many of the yards when I was looking to upscale to 3/4
ton axles for the Scrambler. [I haven't done it yet] I
think it's the same one, blue truck with drum brakes
in the front?
The front axles have positive caster which make them a
pain for CJ conversion. And drumbrakes %#$&*. That
front axle will be there till the Cardinals when the
Super Bowl.

If you come up from Florence which will be the fastest route then from the
60 west go to Ellsworth road. Turn North on Ellsworth and take that all the
way to Bush HWY. The salt river recreation center is on the north east
corner. Turn right on Bush HWY go past the saguaro lake marina, Butcher
Jones turn off is on the right side about 1 mile or so past the lake
entrance. Turn right on the Butcher Jones turn off and follow it all the way
to the green gate. If you have been there before you should be ok.

I have only been there three times and went three differnt ways,
Is Power Line Rd. named three different names ?
I live in Tucson and may come up from the Floance area via the East.
Or may take 10 to Casa Grand then try to head North.
Thanks

No the perch is not part of the housing. it's not just the caster but the
pinion angle that's off. Instead of being parallel with the tcase output
yoke, it's pointed at it. Almost like it was being setup for a CV
driveshaft. I'm not sure what the d30 is out of. I took it for granted it
came from a cj. But unless the older cj's had offset springs i don't know.
Thanks

Yes, that is true. Robert [the younger] who got us
started in the club is away at boot camp. He Joined
the Reserves and will be serve here in Tempe.
He is doing great, though just had hernia surgery on
10/26, and will be home on 2 week leave on 11/8. He's
in Oklahoma and misses wheeling, his girfreind,
wrenching, music, video games, family and you all.
[probably in that order]
While his is away, I am continuing his CJ6 project
which is still fun - even in his absense.
Thanks for thinking of him.

Actually the Archeologists were of the senior variety as opposed to
students and a little hypocritical. They were pleasant for the most
part, but one moment were telling us were should not drive on the rocks
and the next second were gathered around, running across the rocks and
vegetation to take pictures of the jeeps climbing. Everybody should
clean up after themselves, but we shouldn't all be punished for the
failings of a few. Unfortunately, there will always be those who don't
care, and have no concern for anyone but themselves. All we can do is
set the best example we can, do things the right way, pickup up after
ourselves and always tread lightly. Hopefully, someday these groups
will come to realize we are not the enemy.
My two cents.

Subject: [az_vjc] Re: Archeologists On Lower Woodpecker
Howdy! Nothing like being falsely accused to ruin an otherwise
lovely day, huh? Probably once, that archeologist saw one Jeeper do
something dumb, if they ever saw anything at all. Just like
everything else, sometimes it is just one idiot in a group who ruins
it for everyone.
What aggravates me is what you saw: they were tramping all over the
rocks and vegetation, but looking down their noses at you. I am
willing to bet that those were student archeologists, full of self-
righteousness. It sounds like they were the uninformed hypocrits.
Next time ask them if they know what microbiotic crust is, or the
TREAD Lightly rules...
I guess this fires me up because I had my own unpleasant encounter
this weekend, the first of its kind that I have ever had. I was
doing a Broken Arrow tour. I had just gotten to the trailhead, when
a group of mountain bikers came flying by us. One of the women
shouted right into the Jeep as she flew by: "polluters!" I was
stunned, and uncharacteristically speechless.
First, I have never had any unpleasant brushes with the public while
in a yellow Jeep (Pink Jeeps, yes, but not regular people). Second,
my retrofitted 2002 Sahara produces less emissions that her digestive
system. Third, I doubt that she arrived in Sedona in a solar powered
car, or that her high-tech bike and clothing was produced in an
emission-free factory. In fact, she probably drove a volkswagon that
smokes.
In reflection, she probably just had an unpleasant interlude with a
Pink Jeep on the trail, and I was there to receive HER frustration.
My point is, people seem very quick to judge and jump to
conclusions. Everyone is very touchy about public land these days,
and rightfully so...archeologists, bikers, and Jeepers, alike, are
all worried about losing access to their beloved trails and lands.
The challenge I want to put to the group is: How can we bring mutual
understanding to all of these different groups that we all want the
same thing: to protect and enjoy our public lands. We all are so
busy fighting each other that we lose sight of the fact that it is
the policies of the Forest Service and BLM that we should be worried
about. I can't count how many Jeep trails have been shut down by the
Sedona Ranger District in the last two years. Meanwhile, they are
building another golf course...
I know that this is a little heavy for Monday morning, but...
Happy trails!

This has worked really well for me in the past. Grab your garden hose
with
the tap open WIDE OPEN. Then proceed to spray EVERYTHING inside. One
caution, be sure to pull the drain plugs in the floor boards so the
water
that collects in the floor boards doesn't get too high and flow over the
sides. This works to flush all of the dust down to the floor boards
where it
simply flows out the drain holes. This works really well too for
cleaning
engine bays and underside. Only one $3.00 tool need. A hose sprayer
nozzle.
But if you have a pretty TJ..............you better try the compressed
air
idea. One caution: You might find your cup holders full of water with
the
above method and thereby making them unusable! :-)
<big grin> I just couldn't resist this one...................

Subject: RE: Nuetral Safety Switch
Jeff,
Look under the Jeep. The TRS (transmission range sensor) is located on
the passenger side of the AW4 tranny. The neutral safety is a feature of
the TRS. You will see a big nut that holds the TRS to the tranny and a
small bolt just above it that is the adjuster bolt. Loosen the adjuster
bolt and you will see that the TRS can be rotated slightly. I moved mine
all the way to the right then tried to start it in park and neutral. If
it wouldn't start I'd move it a hair to the left and try again. When you
can only start the Jeep in park and neutral you will have correctly
adjusted the TRS.
If this doesn't solve the problem you are having let me know. We can
using an ohm meter to check the switches. Then we can use a voltmeter to
make sure its sending power to the correct pin on the TCM plug depending
on which gear you are in.
I'd be happy to help you with this. It's still very fresh in my mind :D

No, didn't know that. Any help would be appreciated. It started a while
back. One day it wouldn't start so I kicked around under the dash and it
started up after 30 seconds. Then it would do it every 2 weeks or so.
But it would always start up after a minute or so. Last week it wouldn't
start at all. I found a short under the dash and fixed it. I replaced
two burnt and corroded wires going to the ignition switch. I even
changed out the switch and starter(that didn't work). I then checked all
wires for breaks(until 4:30AM). I followed wires to the NSS and found
out it works the reverse lights also(which don't work right now). I can
start the truck but from the starter solenoid. It doesn't start with
gear in park or nuetral. Thanks for any info.

What is wrong with yours? I am very familiar with this part after
swapping the XJ auto tranny into my TJ this past month. What seems to be
wrong with yours? Did you know that there is an adjustment for it?

the H P/U. It's a pick up truck with bad body styling.
For that matter so is the Avalanche or

body styling is goofy - but distinctive - like the

evaluating the merits of trucks to publications whose

LOL.

If you have been there before you should be ok.

came from a cj. But unless the older cj's had offset springs i don't know.

Jeff,
Look under the Jeep.

That truck is such a crack-up. I've started calling it
the H P/U. It's a pick up truck with bad body styling.
For that matter so is the Avalanche or
"Plastic-ranch". In fact I think all of GM's
body styling is goofy - but distinctive - like the
Edsel. C&D should really stick to cars and leave
evaluating the merits of trucks to publications whose
editing staff understands trucks.
That's my opinion - humbly offered )) <- That butt
