Never thought there was. It's not even close to the guy I was thinking of. Just thought I'd ask.

IMO, from the pics it looks like it could be hammered back into
place. Is the end of the tube bent at all? If it is just the tab,
could it not just be bent back? The tab holds the brake caliper
mount?
Just my opinion from seeing the pics.

Subject: Re: Archeologists On Lower Woodpecker
Well, it's begun. This is the beginning of the end IMO of that
entire area. I'll probably go into specifics in a later post but let
me clue some of you in. The FJ area is going to lose trails in great
numbers. Here are some reasons. Archeological sites, riparian
environments, private land owners and the 1989 route survey.
According to one of the BLM folks at a recent scoping meeting
ANYTHING that is over 50 years old and shows evidence of human
inhabitation (must have at least 50 pieces) is an archeological
site. In other words, every trail that leads to a mine with say, 53
bolts that happen to be 50 years old, could easily fall into the
category of archeological site and be closed to 4 wheeling. Guess
what? That's Ajax mine (Woodpecker would probably be excluded b/c
it's owned by ASA now), and Martinez Canyon. Lower/Middle Woodpecker
will be closed b/c of the petroglyphs.
The BLM's riparian environment "clause" has already heavily
contributed to the closure of Jawbreaker (bypasses made by the
original re-openers of the trail didn't help either) and will likely
close Overdose and Bad Medicine (if they ever see how much water can
move through those canyons in a wet year). Martinez is also on the
naked edge of being considered riparian but will most likely be
closed due to the private land owner who is sick of people dumping
trash and taking old mining equipment. (Who can blame him?)
Finally, the 1989 route survey that became pivotal in the closing of
Jawbreaker will no doubt close every remaining 4 plus trail in that
area. Consider this: Upper Woodpecker was pretty much the
first "hardcore" trail in the country. The Mesa 4 wheelers opened
that trail in around 1990; AFTER the 1989 survey of trails, which
means: Upper, Lower, Middle Woodpecker (maybe not Upper since it's
ASA owned), Woody's Wash, U & L Ajax, Highway to Hell, Axle Alley,
Martinez Canyon, Jackhandle, Overdose, Brakeline, and Bad Medicine
could easily be slated for closure based on the 89 survey alone.
I am being too pesimistic? Perhaps, and I certainly hope I'm wrong.
But as things from MGCP shape up along with the current BLM/Private
Ownership OHV parks, I'm inclined to think we are in a perilous
position.
2 cents,
Sean

All the Jeep Wayye axles have offset as do the TJ's.
The Quadratrac have an excesive amount for your
applictaion though people do it.
The typically Wagoneer offset is only slightly more
than a Model 20. 1 to 3 inches will not make a
difference.
If you have a quadratrac D44 and the gear ratio is
what you want, I know where there is a International
housing - cheap. It's mostly bare, but IH D44s are
Semetric [centered differential]. You'll need to buy
aftermarket axles as there was only one in the axle
housing. Of course you might want to upgrade the axles
anyway. And IH D44 are 5 on 5.5 lug pattern and
they're 58 - 60 inches wide which is the width you
want.

The negatives are that you will also be affecting your pinion
angle. My suggestion is to go ahead and try shims but start
off trying the smallest shims you can get (probably 2.5 degree)
and see if that gets you "enough" caster without messing up your
pinion angle too much.
Otherwise, the solution is to grind away the welds holding the
inner knuckles to the axle tubes, rotate the knuckles to achieve
the desired caster (while maintaining the proper pinion angle),
and then re-welding the knuckles to the tubes.

Maybe only practical if the short-side perch is NOT integrated
into the diff housing. I'm not that familiar with the old
narrow 30's to know for sure. But the fact that it's a narrow
30 tells me there's a good chance that the short-side perch IS
on the housing.

Yes. that's the one, though I didn't think it had the
differential in there last month. But, there are
several other D44s, 4.10, 3.73 for sure as well as
brake assemblies. The only thing is the LS axle.
I was tempted, but I'm already trying to sell a Jeep
D44 w/locker, so I've got to many.

I've gone down this road, and replacing/moving the
spring perches in the right place/angle is really the
best way. Though it does hurt to look at the shims.
However you really don't want your pinion angle to get
weird, you just won't be happy with that.
There a lot's of competent welders in the club, myself
included if that is a concern.

Nope the D30 axels spring perch is not integrated into the diff housing.

Maybe only practical if the short-side perch is NOT integrated
into the diff housing. I'm not that familiar with the old
narrow 30's to know for sure. But the fact that it's a narrow
30 tells me there's a good chance that the short-side perch IS
on the housing.

IMO, from the pics it looks like it could be hammered back into
place. Is the end of the tube bent at all? If it is just the tab,
could it not just be bent back? The tab holds the brake caliper
mount?
Just my opinion from seeing the pics.

get it straight in order for the disk to work properly and I need to

Ownership OHV parks, I'm inclined to think we are in a perilous
position.
2 cents,
Sean

I did a swap like this last week on an XJ D44 . Pulled the drum
backing plates and placed spacers behind the flange & seal retainer
to keep the seal in the same area. Used TJ discs on the outside
of the flange with Eldo calipers & pads. GM pattern brackets from
Lou Feger's hold the calipers in place. An absolute breeze of a swap.

As for the AZVJC member I think he should accept it back from you for maybe a 15 - 20% restocking fee, straighten out the tab and resell it. OR lend you a BFH.

Subject: [az_vjc] 8.8 problem
I recently purchased a Ford 8.8 axle to swap in to my YJ. When pulling out the axles to check the seals and bearings I noticed the brake caliper mounting bracket and braket welded to the axle tube are bent on the passenger side. Is it safe to heat this with a torch and bend back? I think this will weaken the bracket, correct? I need to get it straight in order for the disk to work properly and I need to purchase a new caliper bracket.
On a side note, I purchased this from another AZVJC member and called him to let him know of the problem. His response was, "you agreed to purchased it as is... I can't do anything to help you out". Before I bought the axle, I inspected it (I didn't notice the bent parts) and he said there was nothing wrong with it. You would think a fellow Jeeper would try to help you out.
Once this is all fixed a Detroit and regear will follow.
Thanks,
Reid

Yes. that's the one, though I didn't think it had the
differential in there last month.
