Hi Mike,
I didn't have one break because I caught it in the severely bended mode and replaced it with bar pin eliminators.
I would recommend that you replace your bar pins with bar pin eliminators as soon as you can.

If I had to guess why it broke, I would say that your shocks are the wrong length, and more specifically, most likely
too long. You would experience a great deal of force if your shocks bottom out in the compressed mode BEFORE
your suspension travel is limited by your bump stops.

Take your rig down to 4-wheeler's supply or run it by Hunter Offroad and ramp it. Check your shock travel and
I'll bet you find that your shocks are too long. You didn't specify whether this was a front or rear shock, but you
need to check all of them anyway. Also... if you have the money to invest; pick up the bar pin eliminators while
you are at 4 wheeler's supply... pressed steel rolled into a tube just isn't up to the impacts of the abuse we dish out
to our rigs.

Kind Regards,

Joe West

Mike Hiett wrote:

Has anyone seen a bar pin break like the attached photos?

I replaced it with one of the stock bar pins from my old shocks as a quick fix but I'm curious as to what may have caused the pin to break.

Thanks,

Mike H. 02 TJ

P.S. I tried to make the pics small for u 56k users.

I have seen a lot of you with the quick air release for the tires. Where can I get them? I went to Checker and they looked at me like I was crazy, well they were not far off but that is another story.

I have seen people with the simple ones where they just put them on and then check the pressure and then I have seen the ones where it automatically gets the pressure to 10 psi for example.

Offroad Unlimited has the Teraflex caps you screw on like I have.
4Wheelers has those also, and the adjustable ones you set to your
preferance. The Tera caps are like $10 and the Oasis adjustable
ones are about $50 if I remember right. -Rob

They're a lot of good trails around Tucson, and further south. I'm planning
on running Lower Mansfield, not this weekend (wenching instead), but
probably the following. I'll post it up for anyone that wants to go. It will
be a heck of a long drive for anyone from the Phoenix area. I'm betting no
one from the Tucson area has been on this one. It's south of Tucson, in the
Patagonia Mountains. It's rated a solid 3.5+ ~ 4.0 +, maybe a little more,
depending on bypasses. Most of the harder areas have bypasses.
For the Tucson people who may be familiar with the Chivo Falls area, it's a
lot like Italian Trap. It's actually my Italian Trap replacement for when
they close the Trap.
This is a nice run, up in the mountains, in oak and some pine.

Here are things to look at. First raise you front-end off the ground the
look at you tie rod ends and drag ling ends. The other thing that can effect
this is the CJ has a very week universal type joint on the end of the
steering rod that connects to the steering box. check it to see if the play
is in there.
