Hey John,

Heard the spook rally got a little messy for ya! Also I had a question for you. Aren't you running a cherokee driveshaft for your rear driveshaft? If so could you tell me what you think of that and what it takes to make it work.

Hi all,
I called Randys today to see about new gears and the guy I talked to said that for my 30 in the front I could just swap gears, but that for the 44 in the rear, I would need a new carrier.
I currently have a D-30 with an OX locker and 3.73'S in the front and a D44 with Detroit and 3.73's in the rear. This is a 99 TJ.
Why would I need one new carrier, but not the other?
Any insight is always appreciated.

Mike,

First, if you are going to post something like this and you feel strongly
about your opinion you should probably post it to the board.

Second and more importantly, I didn't say they was any excuse for what this
individual did. Furthermore, I can't even comprehend where someone this sick
is coming from. What I did say is, I am surprised it doesn't happen more
often. This is just my opinion based on this "day and age" and the
instructors I have run across at ASU.

Guess what Mike, U of A has a "no gun" policy, just like ASU. That doesn't
work. What would have worked is if U of A had a mandatory "carry of
concealed weapon" policy and when the little deranged **** came up to shoot
the professor, he would have been fired back. If that one didn't get him,
when he went to shoot the second professor that one could have fired back at
him. This would have saved lives.

Sorry for my rant..... It bothers me when my rights are taken away by people
and then others die.

Third, I think it was a YJ.

That doesn't sound right. I went from 3.73 to 4.88 and I had to
change both carriers. From what I understand when you have 3.73 and
higher (lower number) gears and you re-gear to 4.56 or 4.88 (most
common) the old carriers will not fit the new ring gears. The 4.10s
are supposed to be straight swap and you keep your old carriers.
Also if you have a Detroit and also an OX locker in your diffs I'm
pretty sure those ARE your carriers. The locker takes place of your
carrier. There are a couple that just replace the spider gears IN
the carrier... I think those are the Lockrite, Detroit Gearless
etc... -Rob

I try to be active. I participate in threads, done 2 trail runs, bought from member, gave a part of my old t-case to a member, went to phoenix to get some parts, (thanks Scott Kruize) taking it apart tomorrow to see the problem. I wanted so bad to do the Rodeo fire, but unemployed at time and after the jeep payment, I needed to borrow money from in-laws to get gas. Sorry I missed it. Found a Bronco for Mitch for $250. My rig died in August and have been trying to do a stroke on used block.

I know it is not enough, but I am working on it. Been a member 6 months.

I think the rule of thumb is 10% of the people do 100% of the work. I've seen this in everything from church groups to Vietnam Veterans of America.

Joe,

I too spent lots of time and money trying to "fix" the problems I had with the manual. I threw a hand throttle at it, not happy. Threw 4.56's at it, not happy. Threw a 4:1 in, not happy. I was about to tear the motor apart to fix the manual transmission flaws such as low RPM stall speed, and poor acceleration. The end result is that I finally got wise and tossed the manual aside. I no longer need the 4:1 or the hand throttle to rock crawl. I no longer feel I need the stroker. The auto made a HUGE difference in my felt acceleration. I can't believe the difference. I'm so happy that I have abandoned my stroker project. With the manual you also lose alot of momentum when you drop the clutch to shift. The auto grabs the next gear and keeps accelerating. Wanna go faster while climbing? Floor it and the auto grabs a lower gear and keeps on chugging. Then manual loses momentum and then when you finally release the clutch your SOL.

You pride yourself on being a smart man. I'm sure you would never make the same mistakes that I would. ;)

4.56:1 with AtlasII 4.3:1 transfer case and 5 speed manual. I like this setup, but if you don't have a 4:1 transfer case, you may want to go with 4.88:1 gears. I don't however, have an automatic so I can't speak for it's performance. I can tell you my rig is a slow DOG on the road (can't wait to put that V-10 in )

Hi all,I'm sure that most of you know how your jeep grows smaller after a while, well, I run 33's and 3.73's and am planning the second build up of my jeep. This includes an RE 5.5 longarm and 37" tires (I think I'll just skip the 35" stage). My question is; What gears do you guys run with 37's? I have an auto and a 6 cyl. Any insight is appreciated. Ooh, thats a pretty gutless combination. I ran that setup for about 1 week before regearing to 4.56. I was then happy for 2 years until I got the urge to go bigger. I can't imagine that 5th gear is very useful to you.

It's going to be a rather low number. Somewhere around 31 or 32 just to guess.

We also need to know what your ring and pinion ratio is to tell you that.

Anyone know what speedo gear I would need when I go to my 35's? I have a 34 tooth in there now. If it matters I have 4.0L/5spd TJ.

Any help from those who have similar setup would be appreciated.

Thanks,

-Mike

There's never been a shooting at any of the gun shows. And most people
think they are filled with fanatics. It just goes to show that in
general an armed society is a polite society.

Mike,

First, if you are going to post something like this and you feel
strongly about your opinion you should probably post it to the board.

Second and more importantly, I didn't say they was any excuse for what
this individual did. Furthermore, I can't even comprehend where someone
this sick is coming from. What I did say is, I am surprised it doesn't
happen more often. This is just my opinion based on this "day and age"
and the instructors I have run across at ASU.

Guess what Mike, U of A has a "no gun" policy, just like ASU. That
doesn't work. What would have worked is if U of A had a mandatory "carry
of concealed weapon" policy and when the little deranged **** came up to
shoot the professor, he would have been fired back. If that one didn't
get him, when he went to shoot the second professor that one could have
fired back at him. This would have saved lives.

Sorry for my rant..... It bothers me when my rights are taken away by
people and then others die.

Third, I think it was a YJ.
