I have a turbo 350 tranny in my jeep and want to put a manual valve body in it. Has anyone ever done this or know of some one that has.

Thanks

Roger

Are you talking about a complete new manual valve body or just a manual / automatic shift kit???

I was wanting a new manual valve body from like Hughes or T.C.I. I might even go with rev. pattern and change my shifter. So the 1st and rev. are just a click away.

Never done anything other than the old B&M shift kit. But when you get ready to do the work let me know and I'll help.

Most kits come with very detailed instruction Roger, pretty simple process. messy if working on an existing trans.

I'm curious as to why? you can manually shift your trans without damage and then if your cruisin back to the trailer or camp and just want to through it into drive you won't be able to anymore. You can adjust your shift point via the vacuum mod to make it shift sooner or later in the RPM range and you can get shift kits to help other aspects of the auto trans. A manual VB will almost double the cost of your trans. my $.20

The manual valve body gives you the choice of what gear you want to start in. I often use 2nd and 3rd gear in 4 low on obstacles because my 1st gear is pretty low with a 4.3 to 1 transfer case. I didn't do the reverse valve body and am not sure if I made the right choice on that or not? I think there is just as much chance of me needing to grab reverse from 2nd as 1st, and 2nd is the same distance away with either valve body. I had mine installed when I had my tranny rebuilt so I have never actually installed one myself. The write ups on-line that I've read make it look pretty straight forward. Not nearly as complicated as replacing bands and clutches.

Talk to Cris for the install, remeber he is the GM master. I'll ask him next time I talk to him, it should be this week.

Buddy of mine put the reverse valve body on his TH350,mainly to get reverse ands 1st a click away like you were saying. If you are about to loop out on a steep waterfall you can get reverse quickly to save it.

Transgo makes a couple of good kits. I just installed a manual/auto which allows me to keep 1st or 2nd as long as I want but lets me do a full auto in 3rd which is what I wheel in and when you do hard verticals it is nice for the 123 shift up. Starting in 3rd would be had sometimes to get the wheel speed up unless I run NOS. They also make a 400-3 kit which is a stick shift basically.

Sounds like a great setup Barry, but in all honesty I had the TH350 and now the 700 in my yoter and in both tranny's if I put it in 1st and rev teh carp out of it and let off it would not shift unless I moved the lever? Possible I had this kit in these tranny's doubtful in the TH350 but this 700 I know nothing about. bought it rebuilt with 0 miles from Craig who also knew nothing about it cos it came in his buggy project.
