hi all I was wondering if there is somone local that can mill and drill a d44 knuckle for high steer? Anyone sell the arm local too? I was going to order some but figure I will try and support the local guys.
Thanks

Anyone? I can drill the bolt holes on our mill, but I still need the flat top surfaced so the arm fits flat on the knuckle.
Thanks

Ballistic fab in Tucson sells some cool arms. They might be able to work your knuckles too. I don't know for sure but you could call and ask. I haven't heard of anyone in PHX that does it. If you find somebody in the valley to do it, update the thread. I have a set I need done too.

The primary use for a mill is to machine surfaces, not drill holes, though most mills are also capable of drilling holes.

Get a couple of 3/4" or 1" end mills or maybe a small face mill. Make sure the knuckle is securely clamped down in the correct position on the table and take your time machining the surface flat.

It sounds like a fun project!

Good luck!

Thanks guys. We havnt Setup out mill for machining surfaces yet. We use it for cutting notches in tubing on our VW off-road beams and putting the proper angle notch in our torsion leaves, Maybe I will invest in some end mills.
Thanks

I can recommend Desert Fab for this without reservation.

Are the knuckels you have flat top?

I ask because not all Dana 44's are convertable to high steer.

For example the Front 44's on my 78 Cherokee were not right for this. Not enough material to mill down and tap properly. Chevy front axle from same time frame is good choice.

I went with new knuckles purpose made for this.

Dave and Todd can do it what ever way you like at Desert Fab.

Here is a link that explains what Dana 44's are right and not right for this conversion and why.
