View Full Version : Broken Locker
Took my front locker out today. I was going to put the other thrust washer in that I missed out putting in last weekend. Had to put the spider gears back in. Three of the four pins in the locker were broken. Going to check with Joe this Friday to see if I can just buy a set of new pins or if the whole unit is trashed. Still locked in the rear which is a good thing. If it's not one thing, its another. Guess I better change my signature back to rear lockers only.
A friend called me up and said that there was an outfit that was selling the rubicon axles for cheap. He was saying that both front and rear were selling for 1,400.00. Sounds like one of these too good to be true deals, but I thought I would pass it on.

Most lockers (lunch box) you can get replacement springs and pins in a kit for $10.

A replacement spring / pin kit is a good idea to have in your tool kit :)

x2 I've broken a few pins, change 'em before it strips the teeth.
How do you know when you have broken a pin?

won't engage/disangage properly and most likely will slip and/or clunk.
Thanks, I do remember a vehicle on a crown king run that was having problems with the locker. Makes a lot of sense.

Remember when you brake pins you need to change the oil to get rid of any metal shavings...at least put a magnet in your diff; the pins are softer metal and shouldn't do much harm to your gears/bearings, but the thing is after you pins break the locker starts slipping at a bad angle ,it will start shaving the teeth, that metal is a lot harder and can damage your ring, pinion and bearings.

This is one of the reasons that I do not do gears/lockers. I will do a lot of my own wrenching, but not these.
