Saturday was one of those days where no matter what happend we had fun. Lance broke his Track bar in half on one of the trails. Good thing he had welding rods, so three batterys out and Joe went to work. As we were welding up Lances trackbar we were watching a rescue on the other side of the wash. A full size blazer was on it's roof and a good 30 foot down the mountain. No one was hurt and they had it out by the time we were finished welding. So we headed for AA where Joe was the only one to make the big fall w/o winching. Then it was Jacks turn on the big fall. He ended up breaking his driverside ujoint which took out the ball joints. We did the best we could getting it fix and with a little help made it out on his own.
Here are the pic's

Man, THAT was a good day wheelin!!! Too bad I was the only one to run X-tacy BACKWARDS. That was Lance's fault, he stopped everyone from following down. Glad we got the bar welded (good thing Charlie had an "extra" pin for his riding lawnmower in his Jeep) It worked good enough that lance ran Axle Alley with the repaired bar. So much for RE's hollow tube design...:aagh: The real fun was when Jack tried to drive the first waterfall and exploded a driver side u-joint bad enough to push both ball joints out of the "C". after about an hour of work and the jeep falling off the jack :smug: (another story in itself) we got Jack back together good enough for him to drive it home. It was a GREAT day of wheeling.

Charlie(AZCharlie), Joe(FlexyXJ), Jack(1BLKJP), Brian(Scully), and I ran A few trails in FJ yesterday. After we ran UP one of the trails, we decided to run DOWN the same trail. Mistake #1. A huge thanks to Joe for doing a killer trail weld job on the track bar, he not only got me out of a nasty spot on the nasty trail, but it allowed me to wheel the rest of the day. Thanks also to Charlie, for the steel rod we used to beef up the track bar. Thanks guys, for not leaving me high and.......wet, my Jeep HATES TRACK BARS!!! The trails were pretty wet, but had a great time anyway. Glad Jack got home OK, as we were unsure if he was even going to make it 50 ft after his break. Another great day(except for the breaks), with a great group of guys. Shows how with a group of very prepared and skilled, knowledgable wheelers can accomplish while being totally selfsufficient/selfreliant. If not for being equipped with the minimum(and some not so minimum) spare parts/tools/supplies, we would have been forced to leave a few Jeeps out there, and returning today to repair and extract. I don't know how to put this delicately..............but it is very rewarding, NOT to have to call in the cavalry to rescue a group of broken/stuck wheelers. Now this is not always the case, and I realize that there is only so much that you can carry and repair on the trail, but by taking into account the majority of things that can/will go wrong, you can eliminate 95% of the potential for disaster. Also having a mec-an-nik along doesn't hurt.

Terron, You take 3 batteries, and use Jumper cables to wire them in series. Then you use a good welding rod and 3 pairs of sunglasses to weld it all together.

Enjoyed looking at the pics. On the welding rod, which would work best for trail repairs like this? 7018, 6013 or?

Thanks for sharing your adventures, looks like I missed an awesome run.
I have an extra RK track bar left over from my triangulated front axle mod. if you need it. But maybe you are a little closer to getting rid of that whole setup now? I bet you couldn't bend the RK bar like that though..... It would probably just tear off the axle bracket, like I have seen so many times before.

I will have to look, but I think it was 6012, for dirty or rusted mild steel. I will check later.

Bob, I think this virus has made you even funnier bro. :D
Hell yeah it was a great time. 6 hours total, 2 pretty catastrophic breaks and we still ran 2 4.0+ trails. It was my first time on Ecstacy and if it weren't for Lance diggin the hell out of it Brian and I would've made it. :D :D :D As always trail welding is cool to watch, but Saturday the extraction of the Blazer and the tow truck having it's front tires about 4 ft off the ground was more intertaining.
However I caution everyone hot welding rod will burn thru 2 shirts and your skin. If anyone doesn't believe me then I can take a pic of my fat ace stomach to prove it. :D (I suggest believing me because no one wants to see that. :D).
Yeah, I blow'd up the turty, but it was bound to happen at some time, I had all the spares and even with the ball joints questionable I still drove it home to Awhatukee from FJ. :D
Of course as always when the Rats are on the trail good wheelin and good times will be had by all. Thanks again for the help, the wheelin and the laughs Charlie (And your better half which I forget her name, but will never forget her words. :D :D :D), Lance, Joe, and Brian.
