Tom,

How many miles are on her TJ? It is unfortunate that the manifold has
been repaired once since this makes it more difficult for any dealership
to justify replacing the manifold. Most optimistically, she should take
the TJ to a dealership in Colorado and tell them that she is aware of
the TSB for a cracked manifold on her TJ and that she would like to be
fixed under the TSB.
Have her tell them that it needed to be repaired once because she was
concerned about exhaust gasses entering the cab.
She should tell them that she would be happy to pay the $50 co-pay as
required by DC... and if it is a good dealership; they should take care
of her.

Hey Everyone,

I need some help on behalf of a person on another Jeep BBS. She's up in
Colorado and just purchased a used TJ, '98 I believe, with the 4.0L.
She noticed the exhaust manifold is cracked and is being quoted nearly
$1200 for replacement/install. The work is being quoted by a local 4x4
shop. Apparently (according to the 4x4 shop) the manifold has already
repaired (welded) once before.

I won't go into some of the other issues with prices she's being quoted
from this shop, but I at least thought I could help gather some info
regarding Dealer replacement/repair of the manifold.

Can I get a few testimonials from some of you individuals who have had
the repair done after 3/36 warranty expiration? Or maybe a summary of
what she should tell the dealer in order to get this fixed? Is it
really covered under the 7yr emissions system warranty? Not to single
you out again, but Joe West, haven't you collected some info on this
exact subject in the past?

Again, I'd really appreciate your help. Thanks in advance!

Yes on the 6 lug pattern (kept it) and yes on the shackle reversal. If you
want 8 lug, just find some 3/4 ton axles out of a Chevy. You'll get the same
D44 front but the 14bolt rear and 8 lugs (in case that is what you are
looking for too).

My Jeep has burglar alarm, but car thieves with guts can open some
vehicles' hoods and yank the wires to the alarm horn, if they are
quick, before it goes off.

So I ordered the 4Wheel Drive Hardware hood lock, (page 42 of their
catalog), $20.95. Was easy to install, no drilling (actually no tools
at all). Looks like it will slow crooks down considerably...(never
say "stop" them)

I fully support leash laws for birds... damn things crap on my Jeep and
in my yard (and they don't even bury it) They prance around outside my
house windows driving my cats crazy and causing them to tear up the
window sills.
I saw a kid try to pick up a bird the other day and the bird bit the
hell out of the kid causing a severe infection, gangrene, and the kid
died a week later.

I'm currently trying to train my neighborhood birds to stay out of my
yard... but I'm not having much success. They are vicious foul and
dirty animals and should be eradicated from the face of the earth.

Vote yes on proposition 673... leash laws for birds.

Cool right up until your eardrums blow out, you fall to the
ground with a concussion (or worse), dents in the sheet metal
panels on the vehicles.
Sonic booms at low levels can be very destructive.
Better ask them to do at at several thousand feet.

About 6 months ago a guy from work had his TJ stolen from his home. He
actually heard the glass break and started heading down stairs to
investigate. By the time he got to his front door, he heard his Jeep drive
away. He had an alarm with starter kill and a Lo-Jack system, so he called
Lo-Jack right away and they said they picked up it's signal. He felt pretty
confident that the Lo-Jack had just paid for itself. 4 hours later he
called Lo-Jack to find out the status and they said the signal had just
disappeared. Keep in mind these things have their own battery backup built
in so whomever stole his TJ had to know exactly what they were doing.

Unfortunately for him, he had just put new 33's on, dual Ox lockers, new
gears, a Tera Low, and bumpers. Luckily for him though, he had photos,
receipts, and had paid his insurance for extra coverage on these mods. His
insurance paid his Jeep off, and cut him a 5 digit check

I guess the moral of the story is to keep good records of your mods,
insure your mods, and sleep in your Jeep with a loaded firearm.8>)

I am not sure if anyone was thinking of doing an 8.8 or D44 upgrade to their
TJ, but this might be an option:

At the price it is at now, it is worth it. Who knows what three days will
bring.

No Spam!
Sale ends Dec 31. How does $50 + S&H each sound? (gotta go for 2). I have some Younger-Bros bumpers & swingout tire thingy and am thoroughly impressed with their top-quality work. Also great folks to talk to on the telephone. Here's the link for CJ/YJ/TJ folks.

Other products available. No I don't get a kickback on this. ;~)

If anyone wants to get out on Sunday I was thinking of doing Jackhandle or if someone has something else in mind I'm open to any ideas. I've got to work on sat. so it's got to be sun.

Better yet park it in the garage. Better that they steal one or both of
our
Honda Accords than my Jeep.

About 6 months ago a guy from work had his TJ stolen from his home.
He actually heard the glass break and started heading down stairs to
investigate. By the time he got to his front door, he heard his Jeep
drive away. He had an alarm with starter kill and a Lo-Jack system, so
he called Lo-Jack right away and they said they picked up it's signal.
He felt pretty confident that the Lo-Jack had just paid for itself. 4
hours later he called Lo-Jack to find out the status and they said the
signal had just disappeared. Keep in mind these things have their own
battery backup built in so whomever stole his TJ had to know exactly
what they were doing.

Unfortunately for him, he had just put new 33's on, dual Ox lockers,
new gears, a Tera Low, and bumpers. Luckily for him though, he had
photos, receipts, and had paid his insurance for extra coverage on these
mods. His insurance paid his Jeep off, and cut him a 5 digit check

I guess the moral of the story is to keep good records of your mods,
insure your mods, and sleep in your Jeep with a loaded firearm.8>)

Subject: [TR] Raw Deal (Lower) - Saturday, October 26, 2002 - Reminder

Hello All,

Jason LaLiberty is leading a Raw Deal (Lower) trail run on Saturday, October 26, 2002.

When: 9:30amish
Where: I-17 and Carefree Highway
Rating: 3.5+
Length: 4-6 Hours
CB Channel: 4

Hi there,

I would like to run both lower and upper. Also maybe going on to Table Mesa Rd. depending on timing.

I have been on this trail only once. Would like someone else to lead if they are interested. I do have directions on how to get there. Trail is easy to follow once you get to the trailhead.

Thanks,

Jason

Raw Deal is a short trail (1.2 miles) that begins and ends in a wash. It offers a little bit of something for everybody. Many of the obstacles can be taken with varying degrees of difficulty, and a couple can be bypassed. As is the case with many AZ trails, it is best if accompanied by someone who has ran the trail before. There are a few spots were a good spotter will be appreciated. The are several bedrock "cracks" to negotiate, as well as a few rock ledges, varying sized boulders, etc.

Remember to bring your camera and Water.

Enjoy and remember to TREAD Lightly!
