Just in case you have not heard of it yet. The Ragnar Relay race will be in the area on Friday,29FEB-Saturday,1MAR. see www.ragnarrelay.com for more info then click on Del Sol.

We need more hams to help out on this one. It's a 36 hour, 181 mile relay race from Wickenburg to Mesa. There are 36 check points and we need Ham operators at each station.

For more details and to sign up go to www.MCECG.net once there you can check the event schedule.

if all else fails, you can always tune to 147.24 Shaw Butte which is linked to 146.92 Mt. Ord and call for WB4ZKA (MIKE) and he can give you all the info and answers you need.

Several of the linked repeater links will be changed for the weekend. 146.92 will not be linked and will be avl for general use as well as autopatch. 147.24 is being linked with another machine for the race. Just a few things I picked up over the last couple of days while scanning.

I just looked at the map of this race and it goes around Lake Pleasant. Will the roads be shut down around there Saturday morning. Myself and a couple friends were going to run the back way to Crown King Saturday morning starting around 8-9am. Does anyone know if we are going to be able to make it to the air down spot without delay?

Hit up Mike, WB4ZKA with the roads question. I also have Mike's email or you can get it at mcecg.org. I hadn't heard anything about roads being closed. Because this is a multi-day 24 hour type event I don't think the roads will be closed. The runners will not be stopping due to darkness or late hours. As this is a relay not a marathon it shouldn't have the large group of runners in pack that the marathons have. JMO

No roads should be closed for the race, day or night time hours.

I'm monitoring the net since I got home from work. Sounds like the lead runners are near checkpoint 12 which is in Carefree. Checkpoint 6 is near Lake Pleasant, so they should all be well past that area by the morning. Thanks for your replies.

Jimmy, are you a member of the MCECG? Looks like something cool to get involved with in the future.

I would consider “member” to be too strong of a word. I just happened to be listening to the Monday night net one night then, I found myself just listening to the net for about 3 weeks or so, until I finally checked in. As Mike (WB4ZKA) says it’s an “activity”. If you are there, you are there, if you’re not, you’re not! But I did sign up on the www.mcecg.net web site so that I could participate in some of the events. Basically that’s it. They take you as you and with whatever equipment you have and they find a way to utilize you without you getting in over your head. The protocol they use on the Monday night net is basically the same they use during events.
