well when I purchased my Jeep, it was kind of on a whim and the other vehicle I looked at that day was an F350 power stroke.

makes me kinda glad I didn't.

This is going to raise the price of a tow.

I work in the tax and license department for a large corporation. I have heard many people who I work ask how a small business can make it with all the fees. We pay more in property taxes for one store in Illinois that we do for all the stores in the state of Colorado. We are still waiting for a refund for an illegal litter tax they were charging us back in 2004 in Chicago.

Sorry if I hijacked your posting. Needed to vent. Thanks, I feel much better now.

Do your own research and take what you read on the internet with a grain of salt. I guess some commercial tow truck drivers will be hurting.

No big deal, it is actually already here. My work abides by these rules, and 3/4 ton trucks are excluded. Also, does not effect any trailer/load under 10K pounds combined weight, even with a 1 ton truck. 99% of Jeep/trailer combos are well under that, closer to 6K pounds. There are a lot of insurance changes that go with the laws, just be aware and you will be fine.

I'm not sure I would buy into this to soon as I think somebody on the other web site above may have miss read the regulations. When I get back to work tomorrow I will check on our driver compliance software to see if there are any new updates or pending regs that have not posted.

The software usally notifies us at work when there is pending regulation changes and nothing has come across on this yet.

In the mean time the link below is a good starting point for checking into it if you like to web surf and read.

The 10K you are making refferance to here is only if you cross state lines. If you run intrastate only in Arizona the cut off for CMV is 18K. there are other issues that will make you a CMV in Ariz like For Hire, 16 Passengers or more inclueding the driver, and Haz-Mat:):)

On a side bar in Arizona that alot of people miss and most LEOs too. Is that your registration must cover the weight you are hualing and or pulling in combination. Most people dont pay the extra money to cover the wieght they haul and if they try the Lic dept looks at you like you have two heads. :):)

This just my .02 cents worth on this, but I have 25 years exp in the heavy trucking industry, with the last 6 in management.

Actually, I think it is baised on GVW not GW. It's not what your actually hauling, but the maximum your rig CAN haul. But your right that 3/4 tons would be excluded as the lightest 1 ton GVW is 13,000 lbs (for the f-350 6x6 with the widetrack option 67W) and the GVW on a two axle car trailer is 7000 lbs. 1000 pounds under the 21,000 lb rule. Most other 1 ton trucks are in a very grey area, and you know that grey areas favor the county.... always!

I'd suggest looking into getting non commercial DOT #'s for your 1 ton haulers! Better safe than sorry!

We got busted for that one and never knew the law before that. I worked for a friend and we loaded the 2 1/2 ton with the equipment needed and then put 14K in block on the trailer. The truck was licensed commercial but no CDL as it was under some limit. A cop stopped my driver and they called in the DOT suburban. MVD had licensed the truck for 16K but the total weight in cluding trailer, load, truck load and all was over that and over the CDL limit.......Long story short, we initially had ove $8K in fines untill we worked it out with the court, we also learned a lot about hauling in the city of Phoenix that day

Ouch! $8K...... that must have hurt a liitle. The city of Phx can be a pain but I guess they are doing their jobs so we must suport them.
