After that take them out shooting, let them get the feel of an "assault rifle" that will clinch it for them.
I say invite them on one condition.... they all have to ride with a
Jeeper!! Crawl up a couple of the hills and they will be converted!
I have yet to take someone out wheelin and then not come back with a
huge smile on thier face! Even my Mom who white knuckled the first
hill at the coves became impressed after a couple hills! They'll be
selling their Exterras (Joe Kearney!) and buying Jeeps!! LOL -Rob

make bad remarks. Get them involved with us in the cleanup and see if
they can keep up!

Hello again
After the BLM meeting last week, a young lady asked me if she could be invited to the Coves Cleanup. Her name is Julie Sherman, and she is the National Monuments Conservation Organizer for the Southwest Office of the Sierra Club. I was a bit surprised by her request and I told her so. I also told her that we (the AZVJC) have invited the Sierra Club to attend our clean up efforts in the past and gotten only the cold shoulder.
She explained that the Sierra Club has more than it's share of people who have a "tunnel vision" problem and said that not all of their membership is like that. After talking for a while with Miss Sherman and another lady from the SC named Bonny Knowlton I'm inclined to agree. These two ladies were well spoken, had well thought-out positions, and were actually willing to listen to and discuss other people's points of view.......a big change from the Sierra Club I used to know. Who knows...maybe there's some kind of fifth column moderation movement within the SC.
So here's the question: The Sierra Club wants to join us for the clean up. Do we take the "high road" and officially invite them? They can go out to the Coves and see the destruction and garbage any time they want.....why not take them along with us and demonstrate that not all of us are slack jawed, drooling, beer guzzling, trash throwing throttle jockeys?
Thoughts? Comments? Derogatory remarks?

Sounds like one of your front brake wheel cylinders is not working. Try this

Mando,
There are lots of possible reasons for why it pulls. One thing you might want to look at is see if the axle seal is leaking. If it is, the fluid well be just like grease on the pads and that wheel will not stop as well as the others, causeing the pull problem. Could also have a bad wheel cylinder as well. My two thoughts.
Good luck,

Ok folks, its time for the top ten list.
Number 10 - The webpage is already in my favorites folder.

We definitely take the high road. This helps distance us
from groups like SC. Remember, the main objective of the
clean-up is the clean-up. The more people we have involved,
the better the clean-up effort will be.
Other benefits of the clean-up (eg. good image, etc.) are
simply by-products that come with the clean-up. I'm not
saying they're unimportant - we definitely want them. But
we don't want to appear to be doing the clean-up just for
the good image. We want to be doing it because we truly
care about our environment. This will earn us the most
respect.

Dear ASA member,
As you may know, there are flights over the dunes every Saturday morning. As part of the lawsuit settlement that closed the dunes, this is to document possible incursions into the closed areas.
On each flight are a representatives from the environmental community, the BLM, the OHV community, and the pilot. This is where you come in. We need to fill our seat on every flight.
Call Jeri Ferguson at 760-956-2783 or cell 760-953-2466 to schedule a flight. A small write-up after the flight will be helpful but not mandatory and can be mailed to Jeri Ferguson and posted on our forums.
Below are the open dates in the schedule at this time.
The address of the airport is:
1099 Airport RD
Imperial, CA 92251
(Follow Hwy 86 south out of Brawley towards Imperial about 14 miles)
The flight lasts approximately two hours. You would need to be at the airport a half hour before the flight.
You are to look for intrusions into the closure area and make sure every one sees the same thing.
If you commit then cannot make it, call Jeri Ferguson so she can replace you. This is important; we did not have 100% coverage last year.
If you know anyone else that would like to fly on the open dates below please have him or her contact Jeri Ferguson. They must, however, be a member of the off road community.
Jeri’s phone number is 760-956-2783 or cell 760-953-2466.

Ok folks, its time for the top ten list.
Number 10 - The webpage is already in my favorites folder.
Number 9 - If it ain't broken, what the hell - break it.
Number 8 - The grass is always greener. (no not prop 203!)
Number 7 - I have almost figured out this email list service.
Number 6 - The email flame wars NEVER get out of hand.
Number 5 - I have finally convinced most of you I am not a tree
hugger incognito.
Number 4 - When you have a group of leaders running a group (i.e.,
President, VP etc.) the rest of the group gets complacent and assumes
it will get taken care of and not step up to the plate.
Number 3 - How else are we going to see Stu trip over his own tongue
on TV (Sorry Stu...I had to do it!).
Number 2 - Where else can I go and read an email about a trip report
by people I have never met on a trail I have never been on and find
it quite interesting.
Number 1 - Why can't we just all get along!

I'm with Roger. Lets take some pics of recreationists and greenies
working together to make a difference that everyone can enjoy. I think
this is a breath of of fresh air in the fight to keep our trails open.
Lets show them that there are responsible recreationists that care about
the environment just as much as they do. Maybe then they can help us do
battle with that minority of recreationists that cause the majority of
the problems.
It's worth a try.

Things I can think to check (some are duplicated by others already):
1) Brakes are bled well. Air in the line can cause this, but not
always. Loose bleeder screws and brake line attachment points will show
this, but this is obvious by leaking fluid from the brake backing plates
2) Brake fluid or other residue on drum/pad due to other failure (see
item 1 above for other leaking/failed compoents)
3) Bad wheel cylinder. This can be either leaking, blown, or stuck.
4) Drum brakes in general. I've found dirt and water in one drum brake
(especially in the front) effects this too. But most likely this is not
the case.
I would pick up a new wheel cylinder from Autozone for cheap, replace
it, and rebleed the brakes. This would be my personal first approach of
no leaking fluid is present.

After the BLM meeting last week, a young lady asked me if she could be invited to the Coves Cleanup. Her name is Julie Sherman, and she is the National Monuments Conservation Organizer for the Southwest Office of the Sierra Club. I was a bit surprised by her request and I told her so. Subject: [az_vjc] Sierra Club at Coves cleanup

Try this

LOL -Rob

Mando,
There are lots of possible reasons for why it pulls. One thing you might want to look at is see if the axle seal is leaking. If it is, the fluid well be just like grease on the pads and that wheel will not stop as well as the others, causeing the pull problem. Could also have a bad wheel cylinder as well. My two thoughts.
Good luck,

It's worth a try.

from groups like SC. Remember, the main objective of the clean-up is
the clean-up. The more people we have involved, the better the clean-up
effort will be.
Other benefits of the clean-up (eg. good image, etc.) are simply
by-products that come with the clean-up. I'm not saying they're
unimportant - we definitely want them. But we don't want to appear to
be doing the clean-up just for the good image. We want to be doing it
because we truly care about our environment. This will earn us the most
respect.

I told her so. I also told her that we (the AZVJC) have invited the
Sierra Club to attend our clean up efforts in the past and gotten
only the cold shoulder.

their membership is like that. After talking for a while with Miss
Sherman and another lady from the SC named Bonny Knowlton I'm
inclined to agree. These two ladies were well spoken, had well
thought-out positions, and were actually willing to listen to and
discuss other people's points of view.......a big change from the
Sierra Club I used to know. Who knows...maybe there's some kind of
fifth column moderation movement within the SC.

They can go out to the Coves and see the destruction and garbage any
time they want.....why not take them along with us and demonstrate
that not all of us are slack jawed, drooling, beer guzzling, trash
throwing throttle jockeys?

My suspension is making a lot of creaking noise. Should I be greasing or putting oil on the shackles?
It sounds like the leaf springs are making the noise that is why I ask.
