Derek at AZEX is supposed to be the guy to go to for AKs around these parts - http://www.azexarms.com/

I've never met him, nor have I fondled his weapons, but h'e highly regarded on arizonashooting.com

Never tell you to buy AR.....have one now and it is getting exspencive to shoot latly 0.35+ per round if you can find it, need to start loading for it now!

As for the AK you can still buy ammo at shows for 0.13 to 0.25 per round and find it easily. The AK has looser tollerances than the AR and shoots clean or dirty... really dirty while the AR is a great weapon you gotta keep it clean.

Ive always found good deals with J&G guns in Prescott.

The poorest quality tend to be the romanian.
Better ones tend to be Yugoslavian or Bulgarian or Polish if you can find one.
They ALL shoot reliably, so shop on price.

There are two really nice ones with folding stocks (not the cheap underfolders.....though they are really nice if you're looking for a compact weapon system). These are longer than fixed stock AKs (if you're bigger than 5'10" the factory wood stock is cramped unless you're wearing body armor).

They are at Caswell's in Mesa. I think they were $479. Looked to be good quality. I'll look at their site and see if they have any pics. If so, I'll post a link.

I almost thought of getting one, but frankly, after having an AK74, I'm just not impressed with their accuracy. Yes, they always go bang when you pull the trigger, but so does my gas piston AR no matter how many rounds have been through it. I'm waiting for the Masada in 5.56 and 6.8 (or maybe even the 7.62x51 Massoud) or I'd probably pick up one of the AKs at Caswells.

Sean

***EDIT*** sorry, no pics of firearms on their site. You'll have to go by and look. They are in the Stapley/US60 area. http://www.caswells.com/
