I think i have a line on f/r rubicon axles out of an 06 rubicon, these should be a direct bolt on with a 2002 tj? correct? not sure if they have the actuators, but are supposed to be complete including calipers, what needs to be done as far as converting to the disc brakes in the rear, just brake lines? and if they do not come with actuators does any body know what my options would be short of going to the dealer unless they are reasonably priced at the dealer which I doubt
The front and rears are already set up disc brakes, so nothing needed there. You may want to look for the compressors on jeepsareus.com, if the axles don't come with them. You can wire up the compressors to actuate with a flip of a switch and not rely on trying to tie them into any factory wiring that may or may not be there. Should be a pretty simple mod. The axles should bolt in and then you just need to run the air lines and compressors.

I believe you will need to get new drive shafts or at least get a yoke adapter. The front driveshaft will need to be shortened because the D44 pinion is longer than the D30. The rear driveshaft will at least need an adapter because the yokes are different. There may be some other things, others will chime in.

Try searching here: http://www.rubiconownersforum.com/phpbb3/ you may need to register.
I remember reading about it before and it's a great swap if the price is right.

i am meeting the guy tomorrow afternoon, supposed to be complete takeoff axles, I will find out about the actuators, he wants 1800 for the set, this sounds pretty good to me when you consider the price of arb and install, any idea what the yoke adapter may cost? any opinion on paying 1800 for the axles?

I think $1,800 is a great deal if they are in good shape. They were going for twice that when the Rubis first came out. Figure I paid more for a rear Dana44 with Detroit Locker, 4.88 gears and Alloy USA shafts...you are getting a great deal. I would love a dana44 front too for what I paid!
I yoke adapter should not run too much...it is just a u-joint with each size ears...maybe $40 since it is different? You can also swap out the yoke for a reasonable cost too.
as for needing new/shortened shafts...maybe you will need them or not. I know I did NOT need a new driveshaft when I did my dana44 swap and my jeep was 100% stock.
I have also heard a 2" lift will offset the pinon length and can make stock shafts fit great with the dana44 pinon. I did a 2" BB soon after and it has been great for over a year and a half. You can get a 2" lift for very cheap.

You have to do it for the front driveshaft. Jason enlightened me to that fact in chat one night. I was saying it may not be necessary because I didn't shorten mine when I swapped in a d44. I guess you just automatically think rear end when you talk about d44 swaps in a Jeep. When I realized He was talking about a Rubicon 44 front end, it made sense because the d30 is much smaller than the 44. The 35 is pretty close.

I'll use this thread to try and gain a little more info on the 44 swap.
For the rear, 35 to 44 swap:
Can you use the existing E-brake cable?
Any pinion angle change? better? worse?
For the front 30 to 44 swap:
Stock steering will bolt right up?
D30 front brake soft lines will work?
Rubicon specific swap:
If you are putting in the stock locker pumps, is the stock wiring all there to plug in?
Do you need to do anything with the locker indicator wiring? Just zip tie out of the way? OR is that wiring there as well?
Thanks for the help.

For the rear, 35 to 44 swap:
Can you use the existing E-brake cable? Not sure?
Any pinion angle change? better? worse? Should be nominal
For the front 30 to 44 swap:
Stock steering will bolt right up? Yes, knuckles etc bolt right up
D30 front brake soft lines will work? Yes
Rubicon specific swap:
If you are putting in the stock locker pumps, is the stock wiring all there to plug in? Depends on year of jeep 2003 and newer easier to do
Do you need to do anything with the locker indicator wiring? Just zip tie out of the way? OR is that wiring there as well?
You will need to add a switch and wire harness from a rubcion Via Dealer parts counter
Thanks for the help.

Just front axle???? Or both for $1800??? If you want the factory airpumps to work you will need them of coarse and wiring and a switch...you can buy them at any dealer. You can bolt up a D30 Front yoke and still need to cut the drive shaft 2" or use a Rubicon driveshaft

Stock Rubicon Axles with lockers - I have some Mobil 1 Synthetic ($$$) 75W140 gear oil to put in. The bottle says its compatible with Limited Slips. Do I need to add a friction modifyer still? Any recommendations on a cheaper solution? These bottles were $16 each.
Thanks

That is right, no additives needed. AMSOIL and Royal Purple are both good alternatives to Mobil 1, if nothing else for the $$ difference.

You will need diffrent e-brake cables for the rear.. Hopefully the rear comes with the rear e-brake cables.. good score!! everything else appears to be covered..

Yah, I was wondering about the E-brake cables. I thought Jeep would try and use the same part, but maybe not possible. I assume they need to be a little longer? Or does it have to do with the Drum to Disk change?
Thanks!

Watch your air pressure. Rubi lockers operate at 5 Psi.
