Not good. Actually pretty scary. I always pull out the creeper and take a look at the suspension, steering etc... before and after every trail run.

I've certainly seen better. :skull: Did the bolt actually sheer off or did the nut just come off? I made sure to replace the factory bolts with some grade 8 when I put my lift on...

Nut came off and was still on the Skid plate

That's not good. :skull: It could have been much worse. Good thing you caught it.

This is a good learning experience for everyone. Always check your bolts after each run. Also carry spares. I've seen bolts snap in two and I've also seen the nut fall off.
If you need spares, head down to 4 Wheelers or go to the dealer and pick up a couple. Ideally, get something stronger like Mike said above.

Something for everyone ot keep in mind regarding facotry hardware..
The bolts themselves are pretty strong BUT... at the factory they may use Loc-tite and rely on those metal pinched locking nuts. The work great.. once... maybe twice. Unfortunatly, after they have been removed a couple of times, the locking tension is gone from the nut... and if that bogger wants to back off, it will. Always good idea to replace the locking nut if you have have pulled them off once or twice.

I hop out and look at the bottom of the rig after any really tough obstacle for leaks or obvious breakage. Still I had a lower control arm nut come loose on Elvis. Caught it before it came out :)
Glad you caught that before it tore stuff up :)

This was actually strange because I was not at the airup point yet, we were pluggin a tire on the rig I stopped beside and while I was on my knees helping, I looked over at my rig and saw it....yea, I look a lot more now

This happened to me, lost the nut and bolt. Now I put a dab of Goop on the threads after the nut is tightend. Works great. :drummer:

X2 on what George said even though I'm very bad at practicing what I preach when it comes to thread lock :D

is that going to happen to me?

Yup. Thats what happens when you use a stock length bolt and attatch a skid plate to the back side. I am sure the nut was barely on there when it was installed. I have seen this happen many times before. Did you not feel it and the odd way it was driving????

NO. You dont have the skid plate set up that he has, so your bolts are long enough.

Actually, the bolt was a couple thrads out of the nut or I would not have used it. I have had enough experience for at least that much

Having worked on helicopters in a prior life I've never understood why our rigs weren't peppered with castle nuts and cotter pins.
They got one on my drag link and 1 on my old track bar mount.
I understand cost concerns, but geez...
I like to know I'm tight and locked even IF I don't check it every time....
Done preaching...at least I didn't bring up safety-wire!

Scary! I need to get under mine tomorrow and check everything as I heard some clunking over the past couple of days. Just haven't had the time because of work. :(

I had that happen after running predator awhile back. Good thing you caught it. I always carried spare control arm nuts and bolts.
