I have heard and read of having the 14 bolt rear shaved and modified on the bottom side to improve ground clearance. Anyone here have it done and where?

I've been looking over those articles on Pirate for the last week and I'd like to know 2 things:

1) Where can I take a ring gear and have it turned down a 1/4"
2) Who is making a dif cover to fit the newly shaped chunk.

Well I can't help you on number 2...

But I may know of someone for number 1....

I'll get a hold of you when I crack this open and start wrenching. Picking up the axle in about an hour!

If you are gonna shave to the point of needing a custom cover, you might call Dan @ Ruff Stuff Specialties.

http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/14-bolt-375-one-piece-differential-cover-kit-p-38.html

He has these cover kits that could be modified prior to welding them together.

Nice stuff, thanks! I was going to shave it to the point shown in the Pirate article. For that I'd definitely need a custom lid on it.

We use Rough Stuff covers on all our D44 builds! STOUT!!! We can modify the cover no sweat!

I figured as much and planned on bringing it up to you when the time came. IIRC, the Pirate article doesn't explain EXACTLY how much to cut off or provide any landmarks on the dif as to where to cut. Maybe I just need to study it more but this would be something I'd measure and mark 100 times before cutting.
