Alright we got the OK from the ARA to have a net. We need to figure out what day to have it on. I am thinking 8pm so everyone can get home and get dinner out of the way. Also post if you want a different time. We should probaly not do Monday as they have the MCECG net at 9pm, but we could.
So......
What day of the week would you have a better chance of checking into the net?

Weeknights don't work for me since I work swing shift so I voted for Sunday. Any idea which machine we're going to be using?

I voted "it doesn't matter", but I'm thinking a weeknight would work best. Although Sunday night could work too. I'm just excited about getting a Jeep net going.

I think you are talking about the repeaters located at:
147.240 + 162.2 W7ARA Shaw Butte, Phoenix which is linked to 146.920 - 162.2 W7MDY, Mat Mt. Ord, Sunflower.
Those two repeaters have great coverage. I voted for WED, it seems like a nice quiet night on those repeaters.
Thanks again Randy T. NC0NNT for getting all this set up...the hard work has just begun!

Yeah Shaw Butte is a nice central location, good coverage over the valley. And with it tied to Mt. Ord that will get us into the rim country. :D

I was looking at the ARA Net page and Sun nights has a net at 1800pst, but not on the 147.240.
I voted "no preference", however depending on who all is interested, I'd hate see to see one of the "founders" of the new net get cut out because of work. Sun would be a good day as it would the time that most are winding down from the weekend and getting ready for the week. It'd be a casual time and could discuss runs over the weekend, carnage, or possible fixes, etc.
Just a thought.

Hey Randy T.
It was brought to my attention today as I was on the Shaw Butte repeater that maybe this info should also be posted at www.azvjc.org There might be a few interested folks that frequent that web site and not this one.

Wednesday is cool, I only voted Sunday because it was easiest for me. If it happens to be Wednesday then I'll just do my best to get in from time to time. It's no big deal to me, I'm just happy we're getting this going :)

It sounds like Wed is the night. Seeing as how I've not been involved with a net, only listened to a couple last couple of days, what you've got there RandyT sounds good to me.
RandyT, thanks for taking the lead on this. Nice Job.

Not to get ahead of ourselves but if we get some interest from the folks up north (Flagstaff/Sedona area) would it be possible for us to link up some other repeaters (other than the 146.92 machine on Mt. Ord)? Not sure if you meant to bring it up when you present things to the folks at the ARA but I just happened to think about it this evening at work.
Nice getting to talk to you this afternoon Randy, and once again thanks for getting this off the ground. :D :fashizzle:

The linked repeaters should solve the issue for the northern folks, I would think.

The link to the 146.92 machine on Mt. Ord will get us up to the rim (Payson and the vicinity), but to get to Flagstaff we would need another link. There is another repeater (147.36) on Mt. Ord which is linked to the 147.14 repeater on Mt. Elden near Flagstaff, and these two repeaters could probably be linked to provide the coverage we might need. I'm not sure but I don't think it's possible to hit the 146.92 repeater directly from Flagstaff unless you've got high power, an elevated antenna or both. But like I said I was just thinking in terms of future use - we can always revisit this one down the road.

I joined this forum mainly for this thread, I know, I don't drive a Jeep sorry... anyway, what about hooking to a repeater that is on EchoLink? That way, Jeepers from all over the country can talk and even share trail stories, technical stuff, and questions. Just a thought.

Prior to 9pm is kind of hard for people doing the single parent type thing. (I'm not a single parent but the wife is in classes which makes my evenings like one.) 7-9 is the period where you are doing homework and getting the kids ready for bed. Personally I like 930pm so that I can have the kid in bed an have a couple minutes to get settled down.
BTW: have you considered putting it on a IRLP repeater and using a reflector so that other parts of the state can join the net?

Update:
We are just waiting for the final go ahead from the ARA, thay are having their board meeting Thursday nite 1/31/08.
I went to the general meeting last Thursday and gave the preamble and other info to the club president. I thought they would give the all-clear there, but I was told to wait until after the board meeting. I will keep you all posted.
I have read the previous posts and IRLP / Echolink would be cool and we can always move to a different system in the future. Right now I think we need ot hang tight with the ARA and see how it works out. If i tell them now we do not want to use thier system we will be hard pressed to get to use it again if we need to. My thought was to cover the entire Phoenix metro area and we have that covered with the ARA. Lets worry about the entire state later.
My 2 cents.
Leonard, I hear ya about the time. Maybe we should have put a poll on that too?
But for now it seems most folks are ok with 8ish. We may even do 8:15 or 8:30 so we can get checkins from the Skywarn bunch as their net is over by 8:05 :)

Hey no problem. You asked for time suggestions on the original post so I was giving one. I'll make it when I can.

Just FYI, Echolink is a part fo a repeater, I wondered if this repeater already had it. I would not suggest changing sites when you have gone this far.

Just tell them your handle on the CB and I am sure they will let you use it.
