Well, It's pretty much official now. We are 99.9% sure that Kathy cannot make Moab this year.

The jeep is really hard for her to get in & out of and not comfortable to ride in and there is no way she will spend nine days hanging out at the camper. She is more interested in going to Ouray and wants to be in good shape for that trip.

She's a real trouper and went back to work today, :wheelchair: . I think she just got sick of being around me all day.

On a high note, I did get permission :smilielol5: to go without her. :sifone: . Oh how I  her.

The new shoes look good, have to do a little trimming in the rear. Back spacing is no good so I ordered a set of spacers. Picked up new shocks today along with new seats and 5 points. Looks like this.

Are those iceburgs floating on the horizon Rich? :p

As a matter of fact Sy they are. I think that one is the one that sank the Titanic. It's now called "Bird Island Iceberg" and it has floated from the North Atlantic up into the Sea of Cortez via the currents caused by "El Nino Gonzales Jesus Zapata" which only occurs once every 200 years. That is how the salvage experts were able to locate the Titanic by following the currents backwards from the iceberg to the ship's location. If you have any other questions just ask.

I only read page one, but what trails are you guys planning on hitting? I see you said 3.5 to 4.5. Is there any set schedule for trail runs. My early May trip to Moab got cancelled and I'm wondering if I could switch my vacation days at work to possibly make this one (Probably a pipe dream).

I need to hit some of the stuff I haven't before, but still want to do the old standbys like Hell's Revenge, Moab Rim, Upper Helldorado, Pritchett Canyon, Poison Spider/Golden Spike, etc.

Thanks,

Well, it's official, I'm now a cabin boy (with 6 toes). School is still in session and my daughter missed too many days this year (medical) so the wife and kids are staying home. No need for me to drag the big RV so I took over Brad's cabin reservation (C6). I'll be trailering the Jeep and travelling light, for once.

Let's see....

Budget:
Diesel: $300
Gas: $80
Food: $300
T-shirts: $100
Beer: $180 (to trade for goods and services, of course!)
-The smile on my face, priceless!

All I need now is my George Bush stimulous check!

:offtopic:No, I seem to remember Toyota trucks used as weapons carriers as far back as Somalia by the whacko Somalians called Technical vehicles by our military.

That brings back a thought from years ago. When I was in Guantanamo Bay in the 60's we had some 24' fiberglass boats with 318 V8's that they mounted some .30's on the front and a single .50 cal on the rear. These boats were used for security down there in the bay. Everytime they fired the .50 it played havoc with the fiberglass.:D I forget how they fixed them, but I had a friend in the squadron and tried to get transferred to them. Those boats had a crew of 4 and could go 45 knots!

I heard BTR's was boring and not worth the drive with just one obstacle, of course that was from Lance. I wouldn't mind seeing the Golden whatevers since there is a good chance we will not make it next year with prices climbing like this. Might just as soon sit by the river at Parker and run trails there. With the shorter distance maybe even take the boat also. Just got back from Absolute Offroad, Sharon had to come and get me because Hyjak is broke. Rear locker must have broken in the Cracks last month, and I didn't figure it out until I drove it today to get the Co2 bottles filled. It was still locking (sometimes) and flashing the "rear locker" light on the dash, even when it was in 2 high. Joe took it apart and we found a little gear on the locking plates that had sheared off and lodged into a spot that offset the plate just enough that it might not seat properly when locking. Not taking any chances in Moab, so we ordered an new (front) locker to replace the broken rear. It's supposed to be stronger than the limited slip rear. Good thing I found this here before the trip. I wouldn't want anybody but Joe working on my gears at this stage of the game.
Seems like I had a similar problem last year right before our trip to Moab.....

Yeah, the stock front locker doesn't have all the gizmo gears that the limited slip rear locker has. From what Huck has experienced, I might be patching the problem, his only lasted six months. I think he went to an ARB with 35 spline axles. I can just see it now, Hyjak with a D-60 and 40" tires...... I think I'm going to be depressed now.....:(
