I need help converting a large single axle utility trailer to a dual axle unit to tow my Jeep
anyone willing to help me on this? I need someone with a welder and some experience or a good idea on how to do this safely, I would be able to do all of the grunt work (heavy lifting, cutting, grinding, tacking, gathering parts, etc.) other then that, I can offer a poor mans amount of cash, and possibly trade for like new Dell flat screen computer system or office furniture, I do custom flooring/tile work and have my own wet saw, I could trade something like a bathroom tile job for this
Any input or help is appreciated :)
-trailer has perm tags, good solid frame, good wood floor and plenty of room to make a tandem. I've been told several times that it could be converted to make a budget car hauler with relative ease and little expense (I haul 3-4 quads with it now) I would use it for the jeep a few times a year at most, mostly just to get up to Moab for EJS.
I can't afford a new/used car hauler at this time and last year I spent almost $400 to rent a trailer to get up to Moab
Here's what I think is needed for parts and labor:
-two new proper width axles (at least one with brakes)
-all new springs, hangers, mounts etc. (there are several places w/ kits for this) -wheels/tires -brake kit, possibly a new tongue coupler and fenders
Labor:
-install/weld above spring brackets
-remove/rebuild current upper side rails to fit width of jeep (rails are wide enough for stock tired jeep but not with large tires)
