I am sure it will mean much more to some of you than me, but even I was impressed:

"Don,
Getting this crank. Lightest on the market. Hopefully upgrade to ceramic bearings.

Going to upgrade the rear wheel to wireless Powertap.

The Rotor chain rings I got are awesome."

The Zipp Carbon Cranks ZIPP has developed a carbon crankset, the ZIPP 300 Crankset. The Zipp Carbon Cranks are made with the worlds finest aerospace bonding procedure, the latest in aluminum alloy technology, and a radically new carbon layup concept to produce the lightest and stiffest crankset ever made.

The Zipp Carbon Cranks has an astonishing weight of 440 grams for the complete crankset, (Yes, that’s with chainrings) the ZIPP Carbon 300 Crankset is 10% lighter than the next lightest on the market. And the ZIPP 300 Crankset is 50% higher in stiffness than anything previously available, so all of your power hits the road.

How do the Zipp Carbon Cranks do this? Well, its got good grandparents, the original “made in the USA” ZIPP model CA420 carbon crankset and the ZIPP Carbon Crankset, the first two carbon cranks in the world! The 300 crank is the only carbon crank on the market that is made in the USA.

After providing thousands of proven carbon cranksets, ZIPP developed the ZIPP 300 Carbon Crankset. Not satisfied with standard forgings like every other crank on the market, ZIPP started with forged 2XXX alloy from Alcoa. This new alloy was developed as a replacement for standard 2024 and represents a major advancement in toughness and fatigue resistance while maintaining an overall strength and stiffness equivalent to 7075 alloys. Where most carbon cranks used a cast aluminum or carbon spine running the length of the entire crank, ZIPP utilized two separate forged and intricately machined lugs to locate pedal and bottom bracket, saving nearly 150g in aluminum compared to other designs. This weight savings allows for the addition of numerous carbon plies and reinforcements to ensure that the crank is not only extremely overbuilt from a structural perspective, but is unbelievably stiff.

Zipps new keylock lug system and aerospace bonding preparation more than triple the carbon to aluminum bond strength over previously utilized methods. This new bonding technology is so sensitive, it is only available from the aerospace suppliers in the world.

The ZIPP 300 Carbon Cranks are designed to work with ISIS bottom brackets and is compatible with the Shimano 9/10 and Campagnolo 9/10 drivetrains. Multi-patented 7075 53/39 chainrings combined with ZIPP’s unparalleled spider stiffness ensure precise and immediate shift response under all conditions.

The ZIPP 300 Carbon Cranks can also be ordered with Zipp's 185 Bottom Bracket. The Zipp 185 Bottom Bracket is the result of years of research into making a better BB, and after careful work with Zipp's bearing supplier, Zipp has created the ultimate ISIS compatible BB. The 185 BB uses 6A1/4V titanium and a proprietary heat treating process after machining to create a super light spindle, which rides inside two twin-row bearings. Titanium allows the spindle to be the standard 21.5mm diameter within the bearings, but nearly 23mm diameter between the bearings, thus making for a stiffer spindle than lightweight steel spindles that use a reduced diameter between the bearings.

The spindle is then TiCN coated to stop galvanic corrosion and eliminate the need to use special anti-seize lubricants, while increasing the fatigue life of the part. The bearings are a whopping 14mm wide (compared with 12mm for standard double row bearing) meaning that they better distribute forces for a reduced ball load, and add considerable bending stiffness to the spindle as 28 of the 76mm between the crank arms is actually constrained within the bearings! These ultra-precision bearings were designed and manufactured specifically for Zipp in Germany to the highest standards and use custom formulated waterproof grease to ensure that your BB will roll as smooth.

As the first wireless and only power meter on the market, the PowerTap SL 2.4 uses coded digital technology for reliable, clean transmission of heart rate and ride data from hub to handlebar. This technology has allowed us to eliminate crosstalk and data dropout even when riding in a group so you know exactly how you're performing with every pedal stroke.

By zeroing in on your ride metrics the PowerTap SL 2.4 actually puts you more in-tune with your body. Thanks to perceived exertion, you'll always know when you feel great or not–so–great, but now you can attach real numbers to those feelings.

By understanding where you need to be for a great ride every time, your training actually becomes easier and more focused. And because cadence is measured by torque—not with a separate sensor—the computer is 100% wireless, easy to install and can be moved from bike to bike for collecting data even when you train on multiple bikes.

Training to be the best is hard work, but you can make it easier by training smart. With continuous data recording for current, average and max power and speed, current and average heart rate and cadence, total energy expenditure, ride distance and ride time, there will be no questions unanswered at the end of your ride. Except by the people you beat.

Once you're off the bike, simply download the data via USB cable to your computer and use the included PowerAgent software to analyze your ride metrics, investigate interval stats and track your improvements over time.

With a +/- 1.5% accurate measure of performance, PowerTap SL 2.4 is your secret weapon in making quantifiable progress in your training.

I'll pass this on to my wife...she bikes and is always complaining about needing a stiffer crank...lol.
