I need your help to help David C.

I have the guts to a D-30 and to a D-35. David C. needs the spider gears to the D-35, but the spiders gears were all thrown into the same ziplock bag by the shop that did my lockers...

Is there an obvious way to tell the difference between the sets? Obviously size if they are different I guess right?

I need to know because I am giving(free-cycling?) these so he can get back on the trail with us... Okay with you since I haven't been wheeling but you know what I mean! Any help is appreciated!

Reinstall them into the carriers if they dont fit they are the wrong ones. Side gears should be able to count the splines? I am just guessing since I keep my stuff seperated and I thought somone should respond to your post

Thanks Paul! :D

I realized they did seperate the D30 stuff from the D35. Got it sorted. Thanks again for your response...

Can a MOD close this thread? Thank you.

David - Did you get them in? Did you find a pin?

Here's where I am so far: I finally extracted the broken bolt and pulled the gears and carrier and cleaned everything thoroughly. Shnipe offered to give me the pin I need from his d35 but I would need to go remove it myself. Not a problem except I had no transportation this afternoon until about 4:30. However, a mechanic friend of mine ordered a new one from his parts store ($3.50) and I got that from him this evening. So I went to put it all back together but found the new pin is too big. So, tomorrow morning I will get the correct pin one way or another and hopefully finish this job by noon.

Here's a couple pics of the broken gears and pin after removal:

David, try 4 wheelers or Desert Fab in the morning. THey probably have D35s laying around from customers upgrading... If you get it together you should try driving out to Adams for the wrenching party to break them in! :D

Woo Hoo! I'm fixed and driving again! I took Shnipe's offer and pulled the pin from his old d35 and got everything back together! Thanks again Allen and Dennis!:)

I would love to join the wrenching party tonight but now I'm off to work. Good luck guys - I hope you're more efficient than I am!

Since we re talking about spider gears, What part do I weld to make a lincoln locker?

weld the gears to each other and then to the carrier. dont heat the carrier too much or itll warp. if you have a c clip axle make sure you leave a spot to get the clip in

search google there are tonnes of places with pics of how to do it best

If you weld the D35 spiders, it will look like David's did very very soon..

I've learned the hard way, 3 times over that the only thing you can/should do with a d35 is break it and throw it in a dumpster. I don't think it's even rated for any off-pavement activities, or U-turns on pavement. I swear the axles in my Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera I had prior to the Jeep were stronger than the toothpick called Dana 35. I can't believe Jeep actually uses such a known piece of junk. You realize that this time I was running open spider gears, no locker at all! And it still broke on a puny little rock pile, barely giving any gas! Every extra penny I have now goes into my axle upgrade fund. I can't wait to toss that piece of crap into a dumpster!

But, I digress...sometime I'll have to tell you how I really feel about it!

Don't waste an ounce of effort doing anything with a d35 short of replacing it. Just my 2 cents.

and yet i ran mine on quite a few trails with a cracked carrier :D how big was the crack when you pulled out the pin? Probably pulled the pin with your fingers huh?
