I am trying to decide if I want to go all the way to 104 inch wheel base. Let me know what you think. I know 104 will work way better than original plan of 100. I just dont know if it will look stupid.

Might as well only do it once, but what fun would that be ?
How much does the change in plans put you back ? Do you just need to source some new arms or had you ordered/built anything else around 100" ?
Surprised you're not done Kyle........

I voted to go with the longer... The LJ length is exactly the length I plan to stretch mine to so I'm watching your build very closely. ;) I think the official wheelbase is 93.4 for the TJ and 103.4 for the LJ.

Yeah, I'm trying to decide if I want to do it now or right before the summer. I have the interior of the Jeep stripped completely down in my garage at the moment. I grinded down my east coast rust and applied some POR-15 in preparation to get LineX installed. Last week I had the Jeep at an upholsters house (under the table work) getting the safari top finally modified to fit my cage better. I'm not sure if I can have the Jeep out of service any longer to do the stretch since this is perfect wheeling weather. :)

wheelin weather YEP.... it's also prime wrenching weather in the valley... your not sweating your tail off in the garage....
Mine wheelin SOOOOOOON... one solid day in the garage and I'm rolling under it's own power..... Have to fab up a ladder bar soon as well.
Back to topic.... 104" is perfect...... up to about 108" remember that your going to have some breakover issues without a flat skid though....

Looks good, and you don't ever have to worry about dragging your arse...
Do you need new rear end parts to stretch it that far?

I would go at least 104". Depending on what size tire you are going to run and if you have any plans of stretching the front? 37's I would probably stay at 104". If you were thinking about going bigger I would probably think about 106" to 108". I don't think that their is a wrong wheelbase but length really seems to help on waterfalls and thats what all the harder trails around here consist of!

...but the shorter wheelbase would make it easier to navigate through the Wendy's drive through. After all, you can always stack the waterfalls... but you can only turn so sharp through the drive-thru without taking out the sign. :fashizzle:

Ha HA you know how I work. I think this is the longest the Jeep has been down, and it has only been like a week. I am going to order some aluminum for lower links and make them 3.5 inches longer. I am ging to cut mine in half and splice them for now so I can get cradle welded in and shocks in and frame notched, and ds retubed. I am hoping in 2 weeks to be on the road at the latest.

I say wait til summer when it is too hot to wheel. I tried to do mine in phases so I would not miss any wheeling.

For mine I needed rear cradle for upper links, upper and lower control arms, longer brake line, ds retubed, air shocks. Thats about it for rear end parts.
I also had to relocate fuel tank, and comp cut.

I am deabating for mine also. Somewhere around 104"-106". I have seen 104" climb the 3rd fall on CD, and the 1st fall on AA. But not the big fall on OD. That is a tough one.

Kyle -
Marty's TJ is at about 103 - 104" and he's running 37's. You've seen that and know that it looks and works great.
100" would be a total waste, IMHO. I'm at about 98" with my YJ (4" longer than stock), and it has helped maybe a bit, but I still can't get the CD fall, the fist AA fall, nor OD.
BTW, all those are possible at 102 (with no fear of the throttle!)
I'm shooting for 104" (±1") myself when the stretch begins. Am just a bit worried about break-over with only the 36's. In fact, I think my "short" WB may have even helped a bit on Die Hard last weekend. Ryan (Spinnas) got hung on his skid (flat) and frame way more often than I did...he's on 37's and ~108". We were the two little tire'd jeeps. My skid doesn't hang down as much as stock, but it isn't flat, either. Maybe I was just lucky?!?!?
So anyway...104"...DEFINITELY!!!!!!!!

Do it. 104 looks good and will probably work even better. I'll stretch mine as much as possible but probably won't get to 104. Anyway, go for it whether thats now or in 3-4 months.

Well it looks like I will stick with my decisoin to get new lower control arms. It looked little bit funny to me when I first moved it back to 104, so I had to second guess it. It looks like I will be hitting my control arms on a lot of rocks. They will be long hopefully aluminum is slippery compared to steel. I am suprised only one person voted wtf did you do to your Jeep.

If you're relying on the aluminum to slip more on rocks than steel I think you'll be disappointed since aluminum is so soft and the rocks will dig into it.

Go ahead rain on my parade. I was trying to think of reasons to go aluminum instead of steel, and you are not helping.
