I'm planning on doing a SYE kit install in the near future and wanted to know what other preventative maintenance I should do while I have it torn apart. This is a NP231 on a 97 TJ with 105K miles.

What other items should be inspected / swapped out while I'm in there?

Thanks

You are doing a CV DS at the same time....right? Might as well change all your fluids, and grease every zirt you can find. Brakes, air filter, etc. Gears, tires, beadlocks, lockers, armor......etc.

I'd say 4:1 since your already going to have it apart. If that's not in the budget, at least replace the chain and shifting fork pads.

Filter in the transfer, too.

Yep...got the CV shaft with the SYE...all fluids and grease PM's are up to date. I'll add new ATF fluid in my NP231 before test driving the pinion angle setup.

The 4:1 is not yet on the horizon, but definitley would be a good time for it. Any recommendations where to get the chain and shifting fork pads...?

I didn't know there was a filter in there...where could I get it?

The other things that comes to mind is the front driveshaft seal on the TC output shaft. With no manual locking hubs up front, just wondering if the seal should be replaced.

thanks!

Just an FYI Frank, if you're wondering about manual locking hubs because of the problems with my Dad's Isuzu don't worry about it. Your Jeep doesn't have the style hub that can be unlocked in any way shape or form, the hub is constantly engaged with the axle shafts on our Jeeps.

Yeah...I've seen several locking hub failures over the last year and kinda glad that I don't have them.

Without the locking hubs the front d-shaft spins all the time I'm moving. I would think after 105K miles the TC front shaft seal may be close to worn out and need replacement to prevent leaking. But maybe it's better to wait until it starts leaking before replacement...you know "don't fix it if it's not broken".

But if it's a PITA to change that front seal, then it may be worth doing since I'm tearing apart the TC for the SYE install...
