my 2000 TJ 4.0 ran VERY low on fuel, and has ben hard to start ever since. I put in injector cleaner and that seemed to help some, but now it is hit and miss. I have to press the gas pedal and crank the engine, never had to before, it would just start when the key was turned. If the fule line has something in it, can I blow compressed air backwards into the tank, or will that screw up the fuel pump.

Have you changed the fuel filter yet?

Does it happen more when the engine has been sitting overnight? Or just randomly anytime you start it?

ive only run two tanks of fuel since it started happening, and at first it was every start up. then it seemed better, now it is random, sometimes morning starts are easy but not always. I think a short time off then a restart is the worst right now.

hmmm opposite of mine... mine is fine if I have run it. It just starts hard if it has been sitting overnight. I am thinking that problem (have several right now with the XJ) might just be the crappy Mopar battery. Going to see about getting an Optima this week.

First change filter, if still not working remove the pump from the tank and clean pick up screen and check the hose from pump to bulkhead fitting leaving the tank. I've seen that work it's way loose and come off. If it's secure make sure theres no hole in that hose. That hose is only 3'' long. Good luck
