I want to go to a couple of historic sites that are now on the GRIC reservation. Problem is, I don't know what the rules are. I have sent e-mails to the addresses that I could find on their web site. I have tried to call their police department. No return calls. The only thing I haven't done is went to their tribal headquarters. Before I do that, I would like to ask if anyone knows what's permitted as far as driving on established dirt trails on their land?

The land is posted no trespassing. I know that they also prohibit short cuts in the Maricopa area for people trying to bypass traffic by using Indian land. One resident got a $100 fine and their truck impounded.

I would imagine that there would be a way to get temporary permission for someone wanting to do photography. Anyone had any experience with this?

Good luck.

I tried a couple of years ago, my house backs up to the rez in the SanTans. I made a few calls and someone finally said to come on down and we can help you out. Drove down to Sacaton and got the run around in person (details are fuzzy now, basically no one knew anything once I got there).

There is alot of trespassing where I live, people actually pull in with their truck and trailer and unload the crappy junk atv's they just bought on the corner. I have seen the reservation police out there quite a bit. My neighbor got stopped hiking a while back and they threatened to throw him in jail, also said they impound vehicles they catch.

Let me know if you get anywhere.
