Ever spun a fixed gear road bike on a stand and your finger slips between the front ring and the chain?

mmm ya...:bigcry:

It's like one big cut with 4 holes, one of the teeth went to the joint.:drummer:

No but I was grinding down a weld on a tail pipe once with a bench grinder. I went to use the wire wheel, and my left hand holding the other end of pipe, came in between the grinding wheel and the tail pipe. It ripped my finger nail almost completely out. That hurt, and I saw for myself just how long finger nails really are. Ouch 2!

Have you seen a doctor?

Hand and foot injuries are know for turning into nasty infections that can lead to loss of limb.

AMHIK.

I should have. I'll check it tomorrow if it's bad I'll go to the ER. I wouldn't want an infection, althought I scrubed the cr@p out of it, peroxide, antibacterial cream...etc.

:worthless:

shut up:D Imagine you peel off the skin where it got punctured and under it looks like a blender was there doing what it knows best.

Ugh. I got that weird icky tingle in the spine that makes you pucker [down there]. Ya Know?

I don't know, me it's not the spine, but my butt will get tingly for really gross things.

Trust me, it already feels better, I burnt two fingers about 45mns ago:mad: Burnt to where the skin is crispy and smells like chicken. I had to say no to the dog:eek:

You did the right thing for now. If I was looking at it I might still recommend seeing a doctor, particularly if the joint is involved.

You will find it will take at least 6 hours to be seen at an ER. I would suggest checking with your insurance as to a local Urgent Care that would be faster. Many insurances now have a 24 hour nurse line too.

Clean it like than again tomorrow. After a couple of days if no signs of infection skip the peroxides, beta dines, and things like Neosporin. Great for treatment of and prevention of infection but too harsh for new skin cells. Switch to plain soap and water and use Bacitration ointment instead of that or Neosporin or any other triple antibiotic ointment.

Keep it covered, change the bandage once a day at least and more if gets wet or dirty, and watch for signs of infection.

There will be swelling and redness from the get go, but if that is worse in one to two days you may have an issue. Other signs can be increased pain, numbness, change in color (grey = bad, purple or black = very bad)

Tom

PS

Keeping the hand elevated (higher than your heart) will help with the pain and swelling.

PM me if you have diabetes.

how about the doctor in emergency room tell you, you have lost all your front teeth as he examines your bloody face. Then says "wait" and reaches in your mouth and flips lower jaw that is broke in 3 place right side up again, and says "oh, you still have your bottom teeth. And it didn't even hurt until he said that. anyone beat this ??

 Ouch! :bigcry: OK, It's been a week now. Is it getting better? Or you still have tingly butttt feelings....

I once ripped fingernail off while riding a bicycle when I was a teenager. (to close to a chain link fence) It was barely hanging on near cuticle area - bled like a son of a gun. :pinch: Thought I was gonna kill over trying to get it cut off.

Don't recall any tingly butttt feelings. Is that just a guy thing????? :laugh2:

Finger is a little swollen, the bigger hole is still trying to close. It's all itching so that's a good sign!

Not too bad anymore, I was able to bike in the snow yesterday. Need pics of that?:D

Hey FrenchChili... how much do you ride? Road or Mountain? I see you are in N Phx. I'm always looking for ride partners.

FrenchChili
01-03-2008, 01:27 AM
Both, but only have a mountain bike. For the road I have set of smooth tires. From my house to Cave Creek and Pima rd is about 20miles going up hill...I'm out of shape so doing that and then having 20miles downhill is relaxing:D I like to explore though so let me know. I'll ride all trails!

ANOTHER HURT!!!!:drummer::pinch:

I ate :001_9898: twice today dirt jumping on my BMX. Crosscountry is great but I suck at jumping so I've been practicing. There's an area with doubles, it's really sweet, about 4 or 5 lined up. I was finally getting the hang of it in mid air but landing is still hard and the last jump I ate it. The kind of hurt you can't get up and your arm just won't move:eek: Well it took a few minutes to get up, felt like I popped the shoulder.....

Let's skip a few hours, all the bruises my side is feeling, the random medics that came in to shop and asked if someone took a look at my shoulder, and the guys at work telling me to find a doc...

Went to Urgent Care, contusions and shoulder cuff injury. No broken bones but I have to see a specialist. I can't lift anything heavy, move fast, limited motion. SUCKS, and my birthday ride is next weekend.

I've been pretty good to myself on the bike.

The worst fall I had was on Schultz Creek in Flagstaff, which is by far my favorite trail in the state. Easy but so much fun and so incredibly fast. I came down a hill doing at least mach 8 and the front wheel turned sideways in the sand and flipped me over the bars. This was before I got really into biking and had crappy platform pedals so needless to say I flew 10-15 feet and slid like a baseball player in gm 7 of the world series in the dirt. Walked around half bent over for a week before my spine straightened out. So painful trying to sleep.

wow, this topic reminds me of the many injuries I've had to digits being a mechanic n' all. glad to say I've never lost or half-lost a digit, but sliced, diced, impaled, burnt, and even smashed (see attached photo from the white tanks from two weeks ago ) while stacking rocks for another vehicle.
It still looks broken today... never did see a doctor, but have astounded many by keeping the nail. I wish for those with worse injuries.. a speedy recovery. :smug:

(what does that have to do with bicycling? hmmm, well, there was the time my tire iron slipped while changing a rear tube, puncturing my fingernail on the rear sprocket... that was fun.)

LMAO...

Had surgery this morning and it was quick! About 33mns...I remember them rolling me pass some doors and boom that's it, next thing I know I woke up and started shaking like a madman on crack so the nurse had to inject something against it. After that I realized the after effects of all those drugs are really similar to drinking half a bottle of vodka...if that's the case i ain't sober yet:eek: Earlier for dinner we had French mustard with pork, I could hear my dad taking deep breaths like he ate a chili, I honestly coudn't tell it was hot, I'm thinking it might be the best time to do a hot wings contest, who's in?:D

The librum was way messed up, all torn apart, i'll post some pics tom.

^Oooooo doesn't look good:eek: Which was worse, that one or the puncture?

well, each has it's own pain factor... but the punctured nail just kept the nail pushing in on the quick... it happened when I was 17, and my mother said nothing when I hit the liquor cabinet to try and deal with it before I headed out of the house. I think the tally on the day was... a six pack of beer, two bottles of champagne and not much more I remember.

the smashed finger wasn't bad enough to prevent me from driving, although I had to sit down a spell... admittedly seeing the immediate result and feeling the pain was a bit much... it's still trying to heal... and there's no doubt that there's broken if not pulverized bone in there, and nerve damage. still debating on whether or not a doctor could actually do anything for it though.

I smashed my sternum when I was 13 on my RM125. Yeah, the chest healed like crap--embarassed to walk around without a shirt on. Chest looks like it could be a cereal bowl.
