Just got home and would like to say i had a very good time on my first run with the club. All the work i've done on the jeep in the last 4 months has really paid off because it ran flawlessly. it was a really good time.Me and my friend Gary spent the night on the mountain and were woke up around 4:00 am to a thunder storm rolling through. It rained just long enough for us to get things covered then it stopped.Hope to see all of you on the trail again soon.

Don't feel bad Rob, I collapsed both my right front and rear leaf springs on the run. When I saw you at the coves that one time I thought I collapsed the right rear, I found out later I was wrong. I know for sure now, both of them are goners but your problem actually sounds like it could very well be your front axle u-joint, and then again it could also be your rear drive shaft u-joint as well. take it in buddy, take advantage of that warranty good to see you in CK.

To be honest, I really wouldn't have even expected alot of people to
show up. In no uncertain terms, this trail is brutal on the body and
drivetrain, and I would feel bad if someone wanted to come up and end
up with breakage themselves. We more just wanted people to know
where we were. This trail demands a built rig, mine is probably the
bare minimum to make it through.
I finally managed to break my first D30 axle shaft, so if anyone
happens to have an assembled set of inner/outer/u-joint short side TJ
D30 shafts for sale, let me know, I need another spare.
And thanks to Scott for driving back up after a long weekend in CK to
help out.

My XJ is a 5-speed manual. I also have the 2.5 I-4. I know I have a NP207 transfer case, so does this mean I have the Peugeot tranny (BA 10/5) or could I have the AX-15? I have seen elsewhere that the NP207 is only mated to the Peugeot when you have the 2.5 liter. And also have seen that the 207 has only a 21 spline output shaft. Could I possibly have the AX-5??? Now that I have clearly confused everyone, can anyone tell me which I have?? :)

Does anyone know the status of the person (sorry, I never got a name) who suffered a YJ D30 break down yesterday? He was in group #2. (6:30 AM start)
He got patched up and decided to head back (it was prior to the first obstacle).
Ive not seen any postings about it and was wondering. I didnt hear anything from group #3 so I assume the person made it back OK.

Joe,
The manual stating the use of GL-5 rated fluid is a misprint. The AX-15 is
to use GL-4 rated fluid. If you did go by you manual I think that DC needs
to pony up. I will look for the info talking about the misprint. Just so
you know, AutoZone's computer also states the use of GL-5. I told them that
it was incorrect and they didn't seem to care. I had similar problems with
my trans to what you are stating. Others suggested looking at the Clutch
Master Cylinder for leaks or low fluid levels. But that shouldn't be the
case since the other gears work fine. Mine synchos went bad on 2 and 3.
Couldn't down shift and double clutching didn't work.

Subject: Re: AX-15 problems on my 98 TJ
Joe,
I'm not very well versed in the AX-15 (I'm a 2-pedal Jeep guy, myself!), but a somewhat similar issue was recently discussed on a another forum I frequent.
A YJ owner was having trouble getting 5th gear, and many people offered that there are are little c-clips separating and positioning the gears in the AX-15. Apparently, it's kind of common for these clips to break, which causes the gear(s) to slip slightly out of their intended location. This in turn makes it difficult/impossible to engage the affected gear.
However, everyone seemed to say that this wanted to happen to the higher gears (ie. 5th) first. And it was evidenced more by gear grinding while trying to engage the gear than difficulty in even getting the gear. At least if you get the tranny pulled and opened up, a busted c-clip SHOULD be easy to find, eh?
Good luck,
Tom

Need 2 cheap rims w/ 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern. Style and backspacing unimportant - they just need to be true...and cheap.
TIA,
Doug

Joe,
I'm not very well versed in the AX-15 (I'm a 2-pedal Jeep guy, myself!), but a somewhat similar issue was recently discussed on a another forum I frequent.
Good luck,
Tom
