Oops, I read your e-mail wrong. It would take 10 min. from the Castle HotSprings turnoff to the end of the pavement. I was thinking you wanted to know how long from I-17/Carefree Hwy turnoff.

Subject: [Tech] 2000 TJ - Replacing factory gearing

I find that my TJ is quite slugish going up hills when going to flagstaff from Phoenix. I was told that the dealership did put my 4" lift and 33 inch tires on but did nothing for the gear ratio. I think that I must be geared at 3:10 or what ever and I have heard that I need to go to $:10 or what ever. I would like to make a change to get a little more spunk out of my jeep and to possibily get better gas milage ( I have to keep my foot on the gas while in traffic usually).
Lets talk about the $ involved, me vs. mechanic doing the job, etc.
Comments will be appreciated.

I usually back-up about 20 feet or so and hear it click (disengage) and on my merry way. This way I know for sure it's disengaged even though the light went out it doesn't mean it's not in 4wd.

You didn't have it in 4WD, so that really limits that whole line
of thinking... You have the front geared to 4.88 to match the rear,
so that couldn't be it... Unless the front axle did *NOT* disconnect
the last time you shifted out of 4WD, I am mystified. Sorry to hear
that you'll be needing a new front shaft. How's the 8.8 otherwise?

The web site says, "Where: End of the pavement for the Bumble Bee/Crown

So I take this to mean; go North on I-17, get off at the Bumble Bee/Crown

Is this correct? How far after the Black Canyon City exit is this exit? How
far off I-17 is the meeting spot?

Thanks,
