I hate to ask, but with the drive shaft bending like that, I gotta think
that maybe someone's cat was along for the ride and fell down and got
wrapped around the drive shaft. Which would cause it to bend, bind up which
would then in turn might cause the axle u-joints to fail....

It's gotta go! I've had a lot of interest but Prescott is quite a trek for most people I guess! Anyway, here's the info:
1982 CJ-7 (These ARE wide-track, 1982 was the first year)
Chevy 3.8L V6, rebuilt in 1999 with only a few thousand miles put on it since then
T-5 5-speed manual transmission, rebuilt in 1992
D300 transfer-case with 4:1 low-range
AMC20 rear with Superior 1-piece axles, 4.10 gears in both ends
Power steering and tilt wheel
Front disc brakes
Near-new 31x10.50x15 Big O A/T tires
Rancho RS5000 shocks
8-month old Bestop Supertop and 2-piece soft doors
8-month old Bestop rollbar padding
Locking center console with cup holders
Jensen CD player
Swing-out tire carrier
Front tow hooks
48" fiberglass CB whip
Body is straight, paint is fair (dark brown)
Runs great, very reliable. I don't want to sell it but it has to go due to financial difficulties.

Maybe if we wanted to start a riot. REI is a supporter of the greenies, as shown by the Sierra Club's presence *gag, choke* and REI's history of giving the Sierra Club grants to help with their "projects." Not only am I personally against the Sierra Club and other such "extreme" groups, I'm not a supporter of REI.
I know we all need to do our best to get along with everyone, but there are some things that are just begging for trouble...and this is one of them, IMO. The last thing we need is for a couple of Sierra Club extremists to slash our tires when we're not looking. :P

Ok we just completed the repair to Randy's YJ. first the drive shaft was
still bolted in at both ends when he stopped. The whole problem came form
the drivers side u-joint breaking. The diff is fine. The only two ideas we
had are that when the drivers front locked up it dipped the corner enough to
hit the drive shaft the tail pipe and between that and the front pinion
angle due to SOA being sharp caused enough bind to twist the drive shaft.
Basically a freak occurrence. Thanks for all the ideas. Jim F.

I set up a booth for the ASA4WDC at the REI Club Day at their Tempe
Store a couple of years ago. It was a great experience. Marc Rock
brought his YJ to use as a display. We didn't hear one negative word
from any of the other clubs and vendors on display and we gave out a lot
of pamphlets on the ASA4WDC, Tread Lightly, and the Az State Parks OHV
Program. Az Game & Fish was there with a dirt bike & ATV display. A few
other 4x4 clubs were also in attendance, like the Az Outdoor and Travel
Club (Bob Carney's operation). We had a great time, but REI never
invited us back.
Of course the SC was there as well as some of the other eco-nut groups.
They were using the show as a means of getting people to sign petitions
for various things. I asked them what the petitions were, what were the
pros and cons of the issues they were trying to fight --- they were
clueless.
I still have brochures for a tent company called Asage ( www.asage.com
). They make the coolest 4-season tent I have ever seen. If they are
there, take the time to check it out. Also The Society for Primitive
Technology.

Price: $3500
Contact: hogan@extremejeep.com or 928-713-2139
It's gotta go!

The motor is just basically aFord starter motor, and can be replaced OR
re-wound. Bearings are all 'stock' (got one of 'em at NAPA).
JUST FYI for all

My 5-speed gearbox doesn't like to go into reverse. About 80% of the time it will grind a bit when it goes in gear. It only does it in reverse and pumping the clutch doesn't help. Anyone had this problem?

Ok we just completed the repair to Randy's YJ. first the drive shaft was
still bolted in at both ends when he stopped. The whole problem came form
the drivers side u-joint breaking. The diff is fine. The only two ideas we
had are that when the drivers front locked up it dipped the corner enough to
hit the drive shaft the tail pipe and between that and the front pinion
angle due to SOA being sharp caused enough bind to twist the drive shaft.
Basically a freak occurrence. Thanks for all the ideas. Jim F.

I hate to ask, but with the drive shaft bending like that, I gotta think
that maybe someone's cat was along for the ride and fell down and got
wrapped around the drive shaft. Which would cause it to bend, bind up which
would then in turn might cause the axle u-joints to fail....

Technology.
