The driveshaft probably got pulled under the Jeep with the u-joint broke and
the end came loose. Was it the front u-joint (diff end) that broke ? If so,
the front end of the front driveshaft dropped down, hit the pavement and got
bent back under the Jeep. I suspect that you're lucky, as it could have
flipped the Jeep perhaps.

In 2wd, none of your front drivetrain components should be under any
stress. Your axles, U-joints, and drivelines may be turning, but they
shouldn't be under any power. If your front u-joint did indeed break
while driving down the 101, I'd guess somehow your front differential
siezed up. This may explain the broken U-joint. also, the immediate
deceleartion from 65mph to 0 of your front driveshaft could have broken
a U-joint on the driveshaft on the differential side, causing the front
side of the driveshaft to imbed itself into the roadway. You're lucky
it didn't push the T-case through the floorboards of your jeep, or
worse...
This is all just a guess, but it may explain what happened. A quick
look inside your front diff would confirm this hypothesis.

You didn't have it in 4WD, so that really limits that whole line
of thinking... You have the front geared to 4.88 to match the rear,
so that couldn't be it... Unless the front axle did *NOT* disconnect
the last time you shifted out of 4WD, I am mystified. Sorry to hear
that you'll be needing a new front shaft. How's the 8.8 otherwise?

If the diff would have seized it would have broke more than a u-
joint. The two yokes would have collided and broke them also. This
because the wheel yoke would have been moving and the diff yoke would
have been stationary.
Most of the times people have had axle u-joints go it was on the
street doing nothing more than driving around. The four wheeling
tortures them and then the street driving finishes them off, kind of
like the straw that broke the camel's back.
Randy, put a new axle joint in it and see if it turns. I bet it will.
Then it's time for a new drive shaft. I have a few laying around
here, lol (probably none would work).
Do Crown King in 2 wheel drive. Heck most unlocked people do it that
way.
You rocrats need to take it easy on your equipment. :D

Oh yeah, it would have flipped the jeep. my rear drive shaft came loose on my chevy and just spun me like a top, lucky i didn't flip. just a thought as well, those straps that hold the u-joint on, can and will work their way loose. just missing one strap/clamp could have made this happen.
it happens to the best of us (thank god I'm not the best).

so i got off the gas and made my way to the side of the road when i got to
the side i hit the brakes thats when all hell broke loose.i got the jeep
stoped
got out looked under the jeep to find out that my front drive shaft was in a

Hello to the club,
I'm new to Arizona and I'm ready to meet the clubmembers and start
making some great wheeling memories. I have just purchased a 95YJ
which is my first jeep. The first thing I need to do is find a job.
I am looking for an entry level bartending job, but at this point
pretty much anything will do. I am very good with computers in any
area. If you guys know of anything please let me know.
Can't wait to meet you guys.

Is the driveshaft ujoint broken? Maybe you got your snaps wrong. Maybe
it was the driveshaft first that bound and broke the axel ujoint.
I know I am probably totally wrong but it's just a thought.
